My local gun store has a saiga rifle in 7.62x39 for $430. Looks to be in good condition. Is that a decent price? I've been looking at how to pages on how to convert them. Doesn't look hard at all. I'm very mechanically inclined. The problem I'm seeing is all the kits I see come with synthetic furniture. I want it to look like a traditional looking Yugoslavian underfold. Do they sell kits without the furniture? I'm just curious how much it would cost me for conversion parts. I think I saw underfolds for sale for like 60.

Thanks -jimmy

Jesus! I remember when those were going for like $250.00!?!?!

But yeah, that looks like what they are going for these days...

:welcome: to the board.

Kits?

What you need is a Tapco G-2 fire control group and a new buttstock and pistol grip. The front-end stuff is best purchased from Dinzang - so you can put a standard handguard on it. There are a couple of good places for wood furniture - Ironwood Designs and the other new one... can't remember the name.

I use the existing trigger guard and just cut the tail off.

Cutting the rear of the trigger guard off. Does it end up being stout enough? Do replacement wood handguards fit on the saiga? Or is some other piece needed. Im not sure if im reading what you wrote correctly. Sorry, im a total newb to these guns

Well, that gun is a Yugoslavian M-70... when yours is done it will be a bit diffrent. Have you loked into doing a russian style side folder?

I had 2 saigas that I converted and sold a year ago. I really wish that I hadnt as they have gone up quite a bit in price.
