Anybody got one? How is it better/different than Walther P22? I looked one over last night... maybe - I sold my P22 and kind of miss it.

From what I've been hearing the main difference is this one actually works.

Just my $.02 Vit, but why not a Buckmark? .22 isn't a defensive caliber and that gun looks like a defensive/fighting pistol to me.

my experience isn't beyond looking at one at the local shop fwiw. They seem chinsy to me. if I were looking for that style of .22 I'd look at the S&W M&P .22 pistol before I made my decision.

Looked at the Sig 1911-22, looked nice, but then I found out that it's just a rebranded GSG.

There's a lot of good .22s like the Buckmark, Ruger Mks, etc.......

But the real question is can anbody build a modern tacti-cool little .22 that actually works.

The P22 and Sig Mosquito have been duds that only work with high dollar premium ammo, the jury's still out on the new M&P .22 but if it's another Umarex production I'm not holding out much hope for it.

Ruger has always been a leader in .22 technology, let's see how their offering for this niche in the market pans out.

Quality has been thrown completely out the window, any garbage that they think people will buy is churned out without question. It wouldn't be difficult at all to build a good gun, but every pistol is designed by a crack team of accountants.

Could be, but from the early reports I've been hearing Ruger seems to have got it right.

People are claiming they've run cheap bulk ammo through theirs and the SR22 is eating it right up and asking for more.

I'm tempted to try one but I think I'll wait awhile just to make sure there aren't any bugs or recalls that need worked out.

ive got a couple berettas that do me well. A 21A has been my regular carry arsenal for almost a decade with excelent service.

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k365/SiliconWolverine/ggp4006.jpg

also i have a U22 neos that has proven an excellent shooter. once you get past teh swoopy spacegun look its a tackdriver on par with ruger or S&W for usually less money.

http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k365/SiliconWolverine/u22neos-1.jpg

Also i have a P22 thats been a top notch pistol for me. its seen in excess of 30,000 rounds. its not perfect but it goes bang when you pull teh trigger. i will admit its about worn out at 30 k though. the last round hold open stopped working around 18,000 or so, and at 27,000 the firing pin safety had to be removed because teh engagement ear wore off the frame. its fired everything ive fed through it. plus my daughter loves teh hell out of it.

Perhaps the cast zinc slide failures have given me a bit of a bad feel about some of these modern 22's.

The SR22 uses an Aluminium slide not the cheesy ZAMAK pot metal like the P22.

From Wikipedia:
"While zinc alloys are popularly referred to as pot metal or white metal, zamak is held to higher industrial standards."

Yeah gee, if it wasn't held to such high standards it might break and crack like regular ol' pot metal.

hi piont uses ZAMAK in slide for 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP to good effect. i dont think its the material more than it is poor manufacturing quality control. all the failures ive seen of those types of slides started at corners or pressure points where a flaw in the material that shoul dhave been caught by QC wasnt.

Well yeah but look at how huge and out of proportion those Hi-Point slides are compared to regular steel slides.

Yeah it can be done but you can't just substitute pot metal for steel and expect it to last. It has to be made to bigger and thicker dimensions like the Hi-Points.
