I've been interested in checking out some Kobra optics for my AK47, but wanted to know if they make the Kobra's with a picatinny rail instead of the side mounted ones? I don't have one of those side mounts on my AK, and really don't like the idea of drilling into the milled receiver. Any ideas?

This model has a Weaver mount. Don't know if that would work for you or not?

I fully understand your desire not to drill the receiver... so how do you intend to mount the sight?

If you are planning on using the dust cover type of mount... don't bother. They are wobbly and don't hold zero.

I once saw a neat reflex (red dot) sight that mounted IN PLACE OF the rear iron sight. That was a nice design because it held zero and didn't require any permanent modifications to the rifle. Don't remember where I saw it though... try searching for it.

Oh and WELCOME to Gunsnet! Glad to have you here! :welcome:

Unfortunately... the cost for both pieces is around $400 total... but if you want to do it RIGHT....

I purchased the Texas Weapons System dog leg rail top cover for my AK, and I've been using a Aimpoint comp ML3 red dot sight on it. I haven't had any issue with it losing it's zero, even after opening and closing the top cover. It's hinged at the rear sight block, just like the picture you showed me above. I am just looking to find one of the Kobra red dots that have a picatinny rail instead of the side mount. I would like one of the Kobra 1S-03 military red dots.

Yes they used to make them, I'm not sure if it's still being manufactured now though.
I have one that I purchased almost 8 years ago used. I know that the old Tantal website used to sell those so you might be able to get some information from the site but they do not sell anything anymore. If you cant find anything PM me and I'll dig out the paperwork and see what the part number was if that will help you.

If you already have an Aimpoint you have a vastly superior red dot sight. IMHO don't even bother with the Kobra if you value a tough sight with enormous battery life.
