1. Hold the cigar out in front of you

2. Position the foot of the cigar above the flame and try not to touch the flame to the tobacco

3. Toast the foot starting at the edges, and work toward the center while slowly rotating the cigar

4. Gently blow on the foot to make it glow
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 as necessary until the entire foot of the cigar is glowing evenly across

6. Puff gently to avoid tar build-up which can cause bitterness

Wood or butane?

I prefer stick matches. The cigar store I trade with always gives me a box of Arango Sportsman matches with each purchase.

My preferred method- I'll wet the end, not the whole stick like some guys. I have a Xicar scissors cutter that works like no other. Just take the cap off, not too much filler. Next I hit it with a Prometheus blue flame working the edges first and working in as recon described. Now I have a sudden urge to smoke...

7. Turn the just lite end towards you and gently blow on the lite end to ensure
an even light.

Nice selection indeed! Did you prefer the Cohiba or the SD4?

Partagas Series D-4's and Ramon Allones Special Selected are both regular staples. They both smoke circles around Cohiba's as the tobacco has changed throughout the whole Cohiba line. Way too many fakes as well. I do not smoke cigars as often as I used to. Today was special as I had not been with a friend of mine in 6 months and he is transitioning into a new career tomorrow morning.

I'm sure I'm in a minority here, but I tend to prefer a Nicaraguan flavour over
most Habanos.

Minority, but I am in that same boat...I traded off most of my ISOMs last year for some high-quality Nicaraguan goodness...
Nothing beats the sweetness of good Nic tobacco.

I prefer matches, but I have on occasion, had the satisfying experience of lighting a cigar from a glowing gun barrel.

...........and don't forget, to UN-light your cigar, just let it go out in the ashtray. None of that smushing it out like a cig!
