Albuquerque, NM --(Ammoland.com)- Please check out the below video from Paul Gomez (http://www.youtube.com/user/Gomez8136?feature=watch) about his thoughts on the 9mm (http://www.ammoland.com/2012/03/14/walther-ppq-9mm-handgun/) versus the .45 (http://www.ammoland.com/2012/03/05/glock-36-handgun-against-the-other-glocks-hickock45/).

Aah, the never ending debate about the effectiveness of handgun ammunition in different calibers.

Some people are probably tired of this debate and have moved on. They’ve already picked the cartridge that that they shoot best in their respective gun(s). However, I do not tire of this discussion.

I've finally abandoned 9mm* and fixed on .40 and .38 Super though I'm still open to 10mm.

Didn't say I was smart but that's what I have done.

*Now that I've said that, I remembered ArmaLite has a 9mm that has a great feel...to me.

I still like 9mm. Cheap and effective.

.45 or 9mm are for wimps!

A .50BMG handgun would end any confrontation. Whether you hit who you are aiming at doesn't matter as they will either be splattered by the concussion, or fried by the muzzle blast.

Just remember to attach the pistol to your belt with a lanyard. This is the only pistol that you do not want to hold tightly. Hold it loosely and to the side, not in front of you. When you fire it, let it fly out of your hand thereby protecting your arm. The lanyard will keep it near you allowing you to retrieve it quickly for a second shot if needed.

I been going backwards. First the 45 then the .357 mag then the 44 mag, now the 41 mag. Somebody stoop me before I go lower than 10MM.

I agree. Just make sure the lanyard is the right length, if too long it will come around and thump you in the back of the head!

Whether it's my G26, G29, or one of my S&W N frame snubbies in 10mm or 45 ACP I like them all and each round has it's uses.

To be blunt, regardless of whether it's a 115gr +P or +P+ from my G26, a 180gr JHP in one of my 10mm or a good old 230gr 45 ACP ball or HP I don't envy the person who gets hit by any of them. My only concern is in making sure I hit them. If I do my part I'm pretty confident that the end result will be in my favor.

Holding the pistol to your side with the lanyare will also give you the appearance of being a top or a pinwheel after firing. If you miss, this will certainly distract the perpetrator until you regain your balance and recover the weapon for a second shot.

It is also worth mentioning that placement is more important than caliber;

10mm for me but I'm open to other calibers. 9mm is fine for most but ehhh I like the versatility and the energies I can get with the 10. Sure wish they made bigger magazines but 15+1 is good enough...

I prefer .45 but mostly carry 9 mm just because the weapons are smaller.

A hit with a .22lr is better than a miss with a .50S&W... Caliber doesn't matter nearly as much as range time and bullet placement...

That said, I seen to group better with 9x19 and 9x18 so that is what I generally have on me or within reach.
