For the revolver I don't know what I would get, I'm not a revolver guy. I guess a SAA in 45LC just so I could shoot cowboy matches. That looks like fun.

For a semi I would go with a Colt M1911A1 in 45ACP

For the rifle I would go with an Aussie L1A1 in 7.62x51

For the Shotgun I would go with a Mossbergh 590 of some sort in 12Ga.

Probably ought to pick my SW642 38 spl for the revolver so I have a much better carry pistol but I just love that M64 so much I couldn't see not picking it ;)

Revolver and pistol should have been combined. I can't imagine anyone picking anything other than S&W or Ruger, except a few Colt guys and that one dude with the Chiappa Rhino.

S&W Model 19-4 .357
CZ-75b
Mossberg M590 Special Purpose 20"
SAR-1 configured to my preferences

If I could trade the revolver for another long arm it'd be the PSL.

S&W 500 magnum- revolvers are too slow, so if your gonna use one,use one that will kill a bear :)
Glock 20 or any 10mm semiauto - the power of god in your hand
Armalite AR 10- reach out and touch some one
Remington 11-87 Police- just because.

What one gun and caliber would you choose in each category?

What gun do I choose, depends on the situation. We talking; 1) mythical zombie outbreak, 2) TEOTWAWKI, or 3) just if we were limited to own only one of each?

For scenario 1 I would go .22 magnum switch cylinder type revolver as they generally hold 8 rounds, Glock 17 with 35 round Glock 18 mags. An AR-15 for the rifle and a Mossburg 500 series with the exteneded mag tube.

Scenario 2 I would switch the revolver to my .357 Python, Glock 17 / 19 family, AR15 still and the Mossy

Scenario 3, probably the same with the one change up to be an FAL. The 7.62 Nato chambering is more useful for big game under most state hunting laws. For the apocolypse scenarios the stock AR15 will work as I'll simply shoot the deer in the head or spine and I won't be worried about game wardens and hunting laws in those cases. Oh yeah and I'll have my M4, 1000 suppressor on it too.

Out of the enfield family the #4 has the best sights (specifically the dial adjustable rear peep version). As an all-purpose rifle an enfield is hard to beat, you have a 10 round detachable mag, a full power cartridge that doesn't beat the shooter, a very fast to work action and really good irons.

Good reasons. One of these days I will get an enfield. I don't know what model I would like though. Though I do know I want a Lithgow or a Longbranch one.

And an almost zero supply of ammo for one. What you have yourself is what you'd always have if the SHTF. I had a No. 4 Mk I Savage and a very near mint No. 4 MK II. Sold em both as there is no more surplus ammo and finding .303 on the shelf in most gun shops is not happening. I did like them alot, especially the Mk II, but feeding them, not easy, would have to reload all the time. Now I do reload, but I just figured I didn't need to reload one more chambering, already load enough different ones.

You need better gunshops. we have six FFLs in town and two of them have 303 on the shelf. One has three different loads.

Sounds like you proved my point. I said Most won't have it. Your town has 2 of 6 that's one Third of them, not the majority, a minority have it. :cigarsmoking:

Revolver: Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag. If I have to kill a bear standing in my underwear then I can.

Pistol: Para USA P14-45 .45ACP. 14+1 rounds of Go The Fuck Away.

Rifle: Armalite AR10 or equivalent .308 NATO. Kill nearly any animal on the North American continent out to 300 yards. Effective on humans well beyond that.

Shotgun: Remington 870 12ga. Change everything about the gun to make it exactly what suits your needs. Suitable for everything from ducks to bear.

yeah but i have access to it virtually anytime i want. the shops here tend to not compete real hard, ie one shop mostly does ARs and AKs, one does hunting a fudd stuff, one does milsurps, one does the reloading stuff etc. They try and keep parity with each other on prices so theres no cutthroat competiton.

How much ammo do you supposed you'd ever need? 1,000 rounds would probably last a lifetime in a survival situation, unless you're the type that gets in a lot of gunfights, in which case a lifetime supply would be much less. Besides that the idea of going out and scrounging ammo in shtf is a fantasy, there aren't going to be huge piles of anything just laying around for you to grab.

If you like your rifle you're going to take it out and put 100 rounds through it on a range session, at least that's me. 1K is 10 trips to the range. By contrast I have loaded ammo and components of over 8K of .223 and possibly 4K of .30-06 and 4K of 7.62 Nato as well. Didn't need to keep two bolt guns in a rimmed cartridge. There's a reason the Brits gave up the .303 for 7.62 Nato and eventually 5.56 Nato.
