Have a annoying problem with my lower hand-guard front band on my 56s-1, the little metal tab slowly works its way up and the hand-guard comes loose.

Ive tried changing out the lower hand-guard, putting a little piece of metal etc in the barrel journal nothing works to keep that metal tab down. I really dont want to pull sights and gas blocks off. Any ideas?

Thanks

does'nt the upper hand guard act as a stop to keep the tab from flipping up? i thought it did anyway......i could be wrong.

I wish it did.

You might be able to tighten it up by spreading the end of the rivet on the other side of the lever, which is actually part of it. Make sure you support the lever on the side, and then with a hammer and punch, tap around the outside of the rivet (pin). You want to expand it just a bit, but not too much that you stake it and make moving the lever next to impossible.

I would recommend a center punch and putting some punch marks in the simicircular cut out for the handgaurd ferrule latch. This fix is not visible from the outside if done correctly. That lever is supposed to rotate an out of round shaft in a cam action to lock in. Either it is small or the groove is too deep, the punch marks will raise metal and give the cam surface more bite.
