That is something that our current government doesn't understand. They can stimulate all the banks, oil companies and other businesses they want, but until we the people have the money to spend, we can't spend it.

I don't know about you guys but whats on my mind now days is that if my company has a bad quarter or two my ass will be on unemployment. Sure it could happen during normal times but right now jobs are so tight it scares the hell out of me.

Yep, no raise this year, health care cost and deductible up big time, no Christmas bonus and now talk of shutting the company down if the current cold snap continues. Thank God I'm still getting a pay check every week.... for now :smiley08:

The fun is just starting. If you can get your hands on some cash, now is the time to buy. There are few things made in America anymore. Anything and everything that can be outsourced to slave labor countries over the last 30 years has been done. A lot of dirt cheap goods available for anyone left with a job. Hyper-deflation, the Corporatists are stuck with all the cheap shit now and few people left to buy it.
They will lay-off more people next year to make up the loss then lower prices even more. A vicious circle. Some areas of the economy are starting to show signs of hyper-inflation, such as gas and oil, raw materials, chemicals and minerals, food and the like are all imported. The U.S. dollar is set to lose its world reserve currency status next year. When that happens you will need a wheel barrel of money to buy a loaf of bread. That is if you can find a loaf for sale. Hyper-inflation in every sector.

What worries me is the fact that prices keep going up. No raise last year and I am pretty sure it will be the same this year. The prospects of finding another job at least a full time one around here are dim at the moment. That is what worries me.

I used to work for Eastman Kodak, like most of my friends at the company none of us made it to full retirement. We went through 10 years of "low raise, No raise",
and starting in 89' the layoffs started, they called it "downsizing", "rightsizing", re-organizing, and buyouts. So at least once per year, sometimes two times per year, until 2002 I would sweat out the cuts. It got to the point that they expected the people that were left to pick up the work that the laid off people did and
expect that "all" the work would get done in the same amount of time that it took three people to do. I decided in 2001 that if they came up with a voluntary layoff
I would take it. They offered, I accepted, I was done. The kicker was that they wanted me to train someone to take over my work! Well I less than politely told them where they could stick that idea. I showed them the 5 years worth of advanced digital imaging college work that I took and told them that I would gladly
teach that material to someone at a flat rate of $125 per hour on contract for 2 years. They actually thought about it, but before they could make a decision, I
signed the paperwork, turned in my pass, cleaned out my desk, and left. I haven't looked back and may not have as much money as I did when I was working
but I am much happier. Retirement is not the end, it is the beginning of the longest vacation you've ever had.

Well I stumbled on this thread so I figured I resurrect it with my own personal update.

My personal financial life has gone completely to hell. The job I had and posted about a few years ago is long gone. I've bounced around at PT jobs with no benefits and shit pay and now I'm up in ME (the pines) and may be starting another shit job at a local pizza joint in the next few days. This is me a highly skilled industrial mechanic with training and a lifetime of professional experience. This is not because I have not tried to find suitable employment, God knows I've applied everywhere, have utilized mutable employment sources and sent out more resumes than I can count. The fact is there is very few if any good jobs out there anymore, it's sad. At this stage of my life I was supposed to be on the down slide looking forward to early retirement. Now the fact is there will be no such thing, Savings gone, 401K gone, 401A gone, everything is gone. I was taught be an asset learn a good trade and work hard and I did. I like most of you have attained skills and worked very hard all my life, it wasn't supposed to be like this. This Government has succeeded in it's mission, to destroy the middle class. Bye bye miss American pie.

I am saddened to read these post. I am retired and made it through before the American economy was totally destroyed. There is no reason Americans who want to work should be without jobs. The rampant inflation is created by the same socialist who have killed our economy.
I hope things some how improve and you men can keep your jobs or some how find work.
