OK, two questions that haven't been answered in the BiY forum:

I've seen fcg's listed as being modified for the Saiga. Do they not use a regular fcg like the RSA or G2?

Somewhere I saw a fore end conversion where you cut the handguard retainer off and replace it with a set up that looks like it uses 2 Allen head screws to secure the upper and lower retainers so you can use regular AK furniture. Has anyone used this and does anyone know where I saw it?:whacky110:

Well, I still don't know the answers.
I wish all missing members would register and make this a busy place again.
We need the traffic for sure.

Dinzag, CSS and Tapco all make bolt on hand guard retainers. On the FCG I believe the hammer needs the lower front part removed to work in a saiga (going from memory). It's not a tough fix to make a std FCG fit a saiga.

The G-2 fcg works in the 7.62x39 and .223 Saigas and the best IMHO for the 308 is the Power Customs/Red Star Vepr 308 fcg.

The only mods that need be done to any of them is to remove some material from the right side of the hammer axis base to make room for the bolt hold open - if you choose to install it. If you do, study up on the dental floss method of compressing the spring to allow easy install.

Are you talking about a Saiga 12, or a rifle caliber?

I've seen the extension linkage that my S-12 has and it's different from the .308. I don't think it works the same as the regular AK.

I haven't converted a shotty but it appears that they too take the G-2 or similar fcg when you do the conversion.

The conversion involves removing the "stock" fcg linkage and discarding. The receiver is a standard AK type receiver with standard axis pin hole placements.

Thanks! Dinzag has the hg retainer I saw. When I went back looking for them I looked right past them. Blind in one eye, can't see out the other...:lool:

blob, should be the same.

For the cost of the "bolt on retainer" you can buy a "real" retainer,GB,and FSB!!!
A BFG,and punch set and your ready.

I used a Surefire M83 railed handguard. Requires no forward handguard retainer at all. Solid, US made, hard to find, and a bit spendy, but if you get one at a good price I recommend it.

The FSB, etc don't have to be pressed off? Just a BFH after driving the pins out? Or BFRM as it were...

papa, rails aren't my thang man. Looks cool though!

You'd be a lot better off with even a cheap press...

The fsb would be OK with a BFH but I would'nt try the gas block...
