Colt Defense Announces Award of Marine Corps M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistol Contract

Posted on July 20, 2012 by Ammoland

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --(Ammoland.com)- Colt Defense LLC has been awarded an Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contract by the U.S. Marine Corps for up to 12,000 M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistols (CQBP), plus spares and logistical support.

The new CQBP is a direct descendant of the iconic Colt M1911 adopted by the U.S. military in 1911 and carried as the primary sidearm through all the major conflicts of the 20th century.

Wow I am surprised. I knew the marines liked the 1911 but, I didn't know they were seriously looking for a new side arm. I am surprised that they got a new one with out all the other branches of the military being in on it. I am even more surprised that it isn't a 9mm handgun or some sort.

In this day and age they are going with a single stack 1911??? Why is Colt so stuck on the single stack?

I have no problems with the single stack, it feels good in the hand. How many multiple targets do you think you are going to need to engage with a defensive weapon without the opportunity to reload?

One thing they should be worried about is having more jams due to limp wristing with the gays all being out in the military these days. The 1911 might be a bit much for a bronie.

Your right, the military should go back to just 20 round mags in their rifles.

The M-14 is making a come back too!? Sweet! I always liked those two guns.

(note I am just being silly on this one) Though I do like the M-14.

O.S.O.K.

Now that is a handsome slabside.

Kudos to the Marines for seeing the light.

If you have to go with fmj round nose, then yes, indeed - make it a 45!

I'd rather have 9 rounds of 45 ACP in my hand in shitstorm than 17 rounds of 9mm.

Besides, they can carry more mags... and this is not the primary weapon.

I understand what you are saying but to me there is a difference as the handgun is a defensive weapon.
