I'm embarassed to admit that I haven't shot with it yet. I got it for Christmas! DAMN, 7 months ago. I'll tell you that it definitely seems like a great red dot. Solid, high quality and very nice. If you order one, I recomend optics planet and get the high AR mount. I have an eotech, never had an aimpoint. This seems as nice for alot le$$.

How that red dot work for ya? Pretty good alternative to an aimpoint or eotech?

I have a Vortex strikefire on my Robinson Arms M96. The 4 MOA dot is crisp, but when shooting in full sunlight, I need to set it on the highest brightness setting when using the red dot. It also has a green dot, and it remembers the last brightness setting before you turned it off. Supposedly, it has an 800 hour battery life on medium settings. I have owned mine for over a year and have not had to replace the battery yet. My strikefire has a battery saving auto-shutoff feature which turns the sight off after 2 hours. The newer version has a 6 hour shutoff, which seems like a better alternative. The sight has front and rear flip up lens cap covers which fit too tight. I had to take a dremel tool and trim a little plastic on the inside rim to make them snap closed without undue force. Other than that, it's a pretty good red dot for the price. Solidly built and Vortex has a lifetime guarantee. The sight also comes with a free high or low mount.

I'm diggin' the M11/9!

It handles way better with a Mini UZI sidefolder instead of the telescoping stock, and it doesn't look out of place like some of the other aftermarket stocks or adapted AR stocks. I put a Mac Jack in it to speed things up and bought a bunch of 30rd steel magazines when they were still cheap at CDNN. I also made a locking collar for the suppressor out of a tractor linkage part I found at a hardware store. I was basically a ring with a set screw running through it. The Coastal suppressor has spanner wrench holes on the rear, so I drilled two holes in the linkage and drove in two pins to match the position of the holes. Then I shaved down the linkage to fit flush with the barrel collar (it was already the right diameter). Then I used brass black to color the part. So now, I put my home-made collar on the back of the suppressor with the pins in the spanner wrench holes, screw the suppressor on, and tighten the set screw. The suppressor won't unscrew itself from the M11's coarse threads while firing, as is fairly common with these guns. Last, I swapped out the plastic safety for an extended steel safety.

sounds pretty BA. I've had one of those phantoms on order for 3 months now, I haven't even started my paperwork. ATF=inconvenience

You're gonna love it. I's really convenient having one suppressor for most of your rifles.

You asking me? It's an AAC M4-1000 with quick mount threads. I like it fine, makes the .223 sound like a standard .22 LR. I also have a .22 LR Pilot by AAC, that with subsonics makes a .22 LR sound like a pellet gun. Still I regret getting that one as it's a sealed can and you can't take it apart to clean it. I found out after I bought it but while waiting on the paper to get approved that .22 LR suppressors should come apart for cleaning. .22 LR ammo is very dirty compared to centerfire ammo. Lots of lead, wax and powder residue build up in them.

How do you end cleaning the can?

How do you end cleaning the can?

Soak it in an amonia free solvent or cleaner of some sort, brush it with a nylon bristle brush and high pressure air. No amonia as it will chew up the alumnium baffle stack.

That is a lot of work, are these cheaper compared to cans you take apart?Does not seem worth the hassles if you save a few bucks.

Cheaper than some, not as much as others. $350 is what I paid for it. However in retrospect I'd of rather gotten a http://www.yankeehillmachine.com/store/22Mite.html Yankee Hill Mite for $280 ish and it comes apart.

And what are your thoughts on the Osprey piston? That's the one I've been eying for over a year... Especially now that they give you a replacement bolt carrier.

The rounds eject through the mag well ... the mag that's inserted in the well is modified and empty, I use it for a brass catcher :)

I like the Osprey system, what attracted to me was that it doesn't vent under the hand guards. When the carrier comes back forward it collapses the trap and sends the gasses back down the barrel (however there is some seepage around the gas trap). It installs under 5 minutes and no permanent modifications to your weapon, no springs to wear out and it runs clean and cool as advertised. The system added about 3 ounces of weight and there was no effect on accuracy that I could tell. In about 800 rounds there is no indication of carrier tilt as with some other systems and I'm not running any special buffer. If I were to get another piston system I wouldn't hesitate to get another Osprey.

There are two things kind of bug me about it; the piston will slide back and forth when tilted up and down, but you can turn the delta ring to put a little pressure on it. Also, since there are no gas rings, there is no drag on the bolt carrier ... when you split the upper and lower, if the barrel it tilted up and the ejection port door is open, the carrier will slide back; it won't fall out because of the charge handle.

I've been shooting Silver Bear ammo and I've only cleaned it twice since I installed the kit and it really didn't need it. Once at 200 rounds and then at 700 rounds (500 rounds between). When I split the halves, there was virtually no residue in the receiver at all, I ran a few patches down the barrel. Then I wiped the bolt down, pulled off the hand guards and wiped it down around the gas trap and neither of those procedures was worth the effort, but I was curious. Since then I've run a bore-snake down the barrel after shooting but thats all.

I'll tell you what, for the price this is GREAT stuff. Fits very well, no rattles or slop. I can't wait to shoot this now. Its so much lighter without that quad-rail hand guard. Its a HBAR to begin with.

Is that a PVS-10 in front of the ACOG?

No, the ACOG is a TA31F /w a killflash and flip-cover installed. In front of that is an Aimpoint Micro in a LaRue offset mount (a quick roll to 1 o'clock brings it in very quickly).

OIC- you just put a flip cover on your killflash. I have a killflash on my TA01. Now I need to get the calipers and figure out what cover will fit on it.

I use the rubber eyepiece too- it looks 70's old school but it guides me into perfect eye relief and keeps me from bumping my eye with the aluminum housing during rapid fire.

Ok, Top DPMS LR308 AP4, magpul UBR stock, Magpul grips, Magpul angled grip, Magpul rail covers, Troy tan BUIS, Troy 13.8 battle rail, La Rue QD +20 Moa scope mount, Leupold LR/T 3.5x10x40mm, mil dot. La Rue QD bi pod mount w/ harris swivel bi pod, and Badger charging handle, and 308 Enidine hydrolic buffer. Ran about $3700 or so.

Bottom, Smith & Wesson M&P15T w/ Troy Buis, Battle rail, rail covers, stubby grip, and mideval flash hider. Magpul UBR and grip kit. A.R.M.S 19 QD Acog mount and TA01 Acog, spec ops modified sling. Ran about $3500 or so.

Also in photo HK USP 45 Tactical, and Glock 19 w/ Streamlight TLR-1s weapon light, carry piece.

Not in photo, Reminton 700 SPS, Badger Ordnance +20 MOA riser, Badger Ordnance USMC SASS rings, and Leupold LR/T 4.5x14x50mm mil dot. Ran about $3000 or so.

That DPMS is a heavy bitch! But a very nice smooth and accurate shooter, have hit 5 gal buckets out to 700 yards so far with it. The M&P goes to the GF since she is now showing more interest in shooting. The Acog helps her connect hits only at 100m so far (wooded area where we shoot now) but she's given me "permission" to build another AR15 for me cause she aint giving that one back. So I'll go with another M&P w acog, but Tan furniture to match the AR10. Great pics guys and thanks for sharing.
