Having spare parts lying around is dangerous to the bank account; they have a way of turning into complete guns.

I had parts that I'd ended up not using for various other builds (upper receiver, handguard, gas block, 7.62 YHM flash hider, an optic that I bought open box). Didn't like having all this stuff unused, so I thought I'd put together another upper. Already had uppers in the configurations I wanted for .300 BLK and 5.56, so I thought I'd do something different and try 7.62x39. Bought a cheap 8" barrel on gunbroker for less than $100, ordered a bolt from AR15 Performance, a PRI charging handle, and ordered a gas tube. All the bolt carriers I wanted were out of stock (wanted an M16 carrier). I finally gave up on waiting and ordered an AR15 carrier, which came in a couple of days ago. 7.62x39 upper is now complete.

Unfortunately now I have spare uppers in 7.62x39 and .22LR and I'm beginning to think about dedicated lowers (which will require two more tax stamps).

Nice, so go shoot it and see if it really works. Might just be a cool looking jam-O-matic.

Weaknesses for the 7.62x39 AR seem to be bolt breakage and magazine problems. We'll see...

you using C-products mags?

THeres a few companies out there that offer improved 762x39 bolts that tackle the issues.

looks good, I though about a teeny tiny 762x39 upper BUT I'm workin on a 10" rpd upper for mine.

Mags are AR Stoner. From what I understand, they are re-branded C-Products.

I bought the AR15 Performance bolt specifically because it is supposed to be the strongest.

Many haven't, which is why I said go shoot it and find out if it is a Jam-O-matic.

Good luck! That is one fine looking rifle, so I hope it shoots as nice as it looks.
