It's the sporter with the heavier barrel. I'd like to take off the thumb hole stock and replace it with the IWD stock kit to make it look more original. I see poly tech has a kit but would it be compliant to use their kit as opposed to the one made in the USA?
Well I thought I could post the pics, but just turned out the links instead.

Welcome to the group !!! :welcome:

The MAK-91 started life as the Poly Tech Legend National Match with one exception, I believe that like the standard Legend turned milled MAK-90, it uses the receiver of the Legend underfolder without the holes for the folder, but the double cut angles to the rear of the receiver, and a round hole instead of the normal rectangular hole for the standard milled AK type stock.

Because of that, you either have to make your own stock, or get one from Ironwood Designs, who as far as I know are still the only ones that make a stock to fit that receiver.

Regardless, a very nice rifle!!!

Take the stock off and check it out. So much variation on these Chicom guns you never know exactly what you have until you break it down.

Thank you. I've tried to contact Ironwood, but on their site they say they're just buried with orders, as soon as I can contact them I hope to give them my order too.
You all have a great site here, very happy to have found it. Been lurking around and learning a lot. I may try to get my C&R License because I just love the old stuff. I have an SKS carbine, aka paratrooper? and a Yugo M70 AB2? underfolder,I think that's it, used to do some trading, but now I regret some of the guns I've let go. I was going to sell the Yugo but the wife says she likes it better than MAK 91 and wants to keep it too. I'm a lucky guy ...sometimes.

I would put a nice Chote stock on it and make it look like a Dragonov sniper rifle.

Probably too much? $800.00

I have looked at those and almost bought one, but I couldn't get my money soon enough. I do like the look, only wish it was a folder.
imanaknut, after getting the stock off it was just as you described.

Took a couple pics for the fun of it.

$800 is the going rate for those these days, some might even say just below what they are currently selling for. They are pretty hard to come by as not many MAK-91s made it into the land of shall not be infringed before william jefferson clinton had them banned by name.

I think they were only imported in 1993 for a short time from what I've read. NIB I've seen them with 3 five rnd mags to make them legal for hunting hence the "Sporter" model. I feel real lucky to have found one of the models I was looking for, if we can end this obama nightmare in November I won't even mind it going down in price, well a little anyway. Romney isn't nearly as scary on gun rights because he at least has the capacity for abstract thought and would be willing to listen to both sides, at least if he wants a second term.
The guy I bought it from said it had been sitting in his vault for several years and he had never shot it. He had a drum mag that he wanted an extra 75.00 I probably should have bought it but didn't. The 30 rnd mag he gave me with it didn't even fit the gun, I didn't notice that until I'd got home but I still have 10 mags that do, plus the 5 round I bought for the yugo, I'd like to get a deer with it this year just to welcome it to the family.
