I miss old project threads from the old site and figured I'd like to make a contribution to the forum with my latest project. I'll update this thread as my project progresses
The rifle is a Global Trades (Arsenal USA) SSR-85C that I bought back in 2002. The Rifle is a bastard mish-mash of random AK47 and AKM parts. The receiver is a stamped FEG Hungarian Receiver. The Front Trunnion is Polish, the barrel assembly is off of an AK-47 not AKM, I believe it is also polish. The furniture is Hungarain but I think the buttplate is Bulgarian. It has a smooth AK47 receiver cover, slant brake, and came with a non-vented gas tube which actually caused a lot of trouble in that the gas didn't vent and blew back into the receiver making the gun filthy to shoot. I recently discovered that the slant brake was shaving lead and was actually bent from bullet strikes.

Things I plan on Changing. I have ordered a new beech stock from IWD that I am going to stain in minwax gunstock 231 stain and finish with boiled linseed oil. I am going to coat the entire firearm in gunkote satin black. I will replace the gas tube with a vented gas tube that I have. It was given to me but I honestly cant remember by who. I have no idea where it came from. It might be Chinese but fit ok with some light filing. I am also going to upgrade the buttplate to put on a trap door buttplate. I never liked the AKM handguard, don't like the buttstock and hate the black plastic pistol grip. This is a shame because overall I think the wood looks really nice.l

I dremeled off the weld that was attaching the slant brake. Global trades was lazy, it was not pinned and welded, they just drilled a hole in the slant brake and plug welded it. The quality of the weld was really shitty with a lack of fusion to the slant brake. The weld was cracked around the whole perimiter.
I found good condition threads underneath the slant brake and cleaned up the area in the weld with a file. I put a muzzle nut on.
