Good price for the SAR-2 these days. That one has had the original wood removed and an AK-74 style stock set installed, which is nice.

SAR-2s are great shooters, and if you install the original gas block with the AK-74 brake, a softer shooter than most .22LRs.

I would get it in a heart beat if it was near me.

About the only issue was with the early, "99" dated ones. Some had soft hammers that would mushroom as you shot it. Mine I just hit with a file after a range trip, but they are easily replaced as they use standard AK/AKM single hook hammers.

Just tell your wife that these are among the best investments you can make these days. See if she understands that the money you have spent will return a whole bunch more if you decided to sell.

imanak, you know how women are, she would never understand somthing of that nature..... especially when i bring it out and fondle it more than i do her. they just see another piece of scrap iron in the house that men drool over.

400 is not much more than I paid for mine NIB back in 06-07 ($350). Original Romanian AK 74 variants are very hard to come by. Wonder what year it was imported? I'd take it and run, personally. If you get enough of them, then it gets harder for the wife to keep up and "they all start to look the same", at least according to my wife. The trick is to keep it under the radar until you get to that point.

Sar 2 has the best rep of all the Romanians. $400 is a great deal with shitty WASRs going fo 5-6 these days.

You know, I joke about having so many that the wife can't tell them apart, but now that she's in on the game, it's not really a big deal anymore. Kinda hard to hide when you bring a new one home when the FedEx or UPS guys are delivering boxes of parts kits about every 3 or 4 months, you know?

The SAR-2 you list would be a good first AK. Ammo, surplus Russian and Bulgarian or Yugo ammo will be your cheapest center fire rifle chambering. The surplus is up from 10 cents to about 15 cents now but that's still about half the cost of 7.62x39 and one third the cost of .223 ammo purchased commercially. (Reloading .223 is another story, 20 to 25 cents a round). The surplus ammo is corrosive primed, so extra cleaning care, especially the inside of the gas tube and system and the bolt group is required. The SAR-2 rifles will be more accurate than the 7.62x39 rifles if it is "Typical" of the SAR-2 rifles. I have benched and test fired over a dozen SAR1 rifles, a dozen SAR-2 rifles and a dozen SAR-3 rifles in the past. I stopped testing them once I was sure the results were predictiable. In order of most accurate to least accurate it goes like this; #1 SAR-3 rifles, #2 SAR-2 rifles and last by a good margin SAR-1 rifles. Seen similar results with other nationalities versions of the AK in these 3 chamberings.

The ONLY down side to the SAR-2 is finding AK74 mags that aren't over priced. They all are when compared to the 7.62x39 30 round AK mag.
