Assembly measure aims to strip gun rights

To The Editor:

What some people are saying regarding Assemblyman Dave Townsend’s vote on Assembly Bill 7575 is misleading. The assembly website (www.assembly.state.ny.us) reveals that the real goal of this legislation is to limit Second Amendment rights under the guise of protecting against domestic violence.

This bill would not have prevented the recent terrible tragedy in Blossvale; any attempt to link this tragedy with this bill is not only dishonest, it is calculated to unfairly throw mud at Mr. Townsend, Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, Assembly members Bill Magee and Marc Butler and the other 12 women members of the Assembly who also voted against this legislation.

I am glad our local Assembly delegation had the insight to vote against this bad piece of legislation which had nothing to do with domestic violence and everything to do with impinging on our constitutional rights.

Assembly measure aims to strip gun rights

OK I just read the assembly bill... looked at 265 (the penal law it would amend) and I can't even figure out what it's supposed to accomplish.

Call me confused...
