I friend of mine just bought an old High Wall. Its an original, but I would like to see if someone can provide me some more information about it. Like if it is indeed an original 50 express, or one of the ones that got rebarreled. I think there is no more than 300 ever made of the "out of the box 50`s".

The serial number on it is 113664. That should put in back in 1919 or so. I think they got discontinued in 1920.

Any information around a rifle like this would be great. He also would like to know the approx value as he wants to trade it for something else. He is a collector of Norwegian Army rifles an pistols, so its not in his neighbourhood.

Thank you....

Like the one in the attached link? They are stating only 30 were made, not 300.

I believe this shows a date of 1912 for your friends rifle.

It looks like Richard nailed this description of the High wall. Hedning, your friend has a very rare and desireable rifle. If your friend ever goes looking for ammunition (http://www.shootersforum.com/attachments/blackpowder-cartridge-shooting-loading/7060d1205876878-50-140-blackpowder-50-110winchester.jpg) it isn't cheap. You can still find it at Buffalo Arms (https://www.buffaloarms.com/50_110_Winchester_Black_Powder_Ammunition_it-158086.aspx?CAT=4444) or Old Western Scounger (http://www.ows-ammo.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=58_21&products_id=164). If you need to make you own...

Thanks guys. However, are you sure about the manufacturing year? Using the serial number database for the mod 1885 gives me 1919. Not that important anyway. Is it possible in any way to find out if its indeed one of those 30? And not just a rebarreled one.

Thank you

Probably the best source for historical information on an older Winchester firearm can be found by contacting the people at the link below.

Anyone who has visited the museum in Cody, WY would probably agree it is an awesome collection of firearms.

My friend has been in contact with Cody. They are 99% sure it is an original. I think I have seen just one of them sold at an auction years ago, but I can`t remember what the price got up to. Anyone with a ballpark value?
