Went in the other day and there is a 1950 Russian SKS for sale. 350.00. Average price I guess. I asked the lady working there (not the regular guy) what the bottom dollar was. She said what is on the tag. Going to go back today and see if the owner is there. Nice looking sks. Don't need another right now. But looking for your thoughts.

If it is in good shape that doesn't sound like a bad price. I paid that much for mine 7 years ago.

Mine does not work right. There is something wrong with the trigger group and I haven't had the time to fix it. I doubt this one would have the same problem but I'd look at it anyway.

The Russ's had an issue with the trigger group.

You're actually better off with one that has a force matched trigger group than an all original matching numbers. If the original numbers on the trigger group were slashed out and a new matching number to the rifle stamped on, it usually means the trigger group was upgraded.

Any Russ trigger group without a slashed out and replaced number should be suspect.

It was about 10 years ago and several computers back that I remember reading about this so I don't recall the issue or have a link to it. Sorry.

Wow I didn't know others had had problems. I thought I had a one off bad apple. I think the problem with mine is with the disconnector.

Yeah this is a known problem with the Russians and there was a lot more info on it back when they were being imported. I wish I could tell you more but I'm just trying to remember off the top of my head. It was a design flaw that may have only been on the first couple of years production and was later corrected, with "most" of the early ones being upgraded to the new design.

This is also why it's not a problem with later makes like the Chinese or Yugos.

Oh I wish could remember the actual problem but I just don't recall.

Well I did find a way to identify if you have the early or late group.

-Early trigger group. 1949 - part1952. No trigger arm mount, no spring for safety lever and no rise between the trigger guard and the mag catch(below pic, top).
-Late trigger group. Part1952 - 1956. Has trigger arm mount (pen pointing), spring safety lever and a raised between the trigger guard and the mag catch (bottom).

I've got a '53 Tula Russki SKS. Just had it out to the range last week, ran 60 rounds through it without a hiccup. It's accurate too, as far as it's make goes.

I see the Russians around here selling for $500 or so now. 350 bucks is a good price in today's market, imo.

Had no idea prices had gone up this much. Bought my Russian (EX+ refurb with black bolt) for $215.00 years ago in a little hole in the wall gunshop. Had a police evidence tag on it.

I have done well in the past reselling Russians. Just with the time of year not sure if I want to get another Russian. Especially since I hear a SOCOM calling my name at a different shop.

Had one like that I just sold a few months ago.

Paid $175 for it back in the day sold it for $450.

Kept the silver bolt paid $225 back when for it, I'm gonna hang on to it.

That certainly is a fair price, especially if it runs good. Can you do a quick trial run, where they'll agree to take it back if there's a trigger problem?

Probably long gone now... If not, I bet the price went up.

El Duce, Did you pass on this one? Inquiring minds want to know...:hyper:

Wow, I didn't realize they'd gone up that much either. I have a very nice all matching '54 Tula that I paid $69.00 for back when they first started importing them, around the early '90s.

My Norinco was cheap. Bought it back a couple of years for $200 used very little with
a busted off poly folding stock but very nice mechanicals and bright bore. Mine does
not like cheap steel cased ammo, didn't cycle right, switched to Wolf mil classic, seems
to like the stuff.

I passed, and then the craziness happened. I went by there the other day. And yes. It was long gone.
