Kind of like making sausage or cheese. If you want to enjoy it you don't want to watch it being made.

I'm sure it's very good. But all the "garage supplies" do not put forth a lot of confidence. Those are not ingredients are they?

I'd really like to try mead, I just don't have the patience or desire to make it myself though. Wish I could buy it at the liquor store.

There is a chain of large liquor stores out here called beverages and more

www.bevmo.com they might ship it to you.

It suprised me how good it was.

Have you tried your latest batch? I drank mead at the Ren Faire in Waxahachie. It is a unique drink. I would also like to make my own someday.

Can you describe what the mead tastes like?

yes I taste every thing when I test the gravity ! This is the first time I have ever tasted mead its more raspberry with a hint of vanilla..Its very sweet and very different from wine and champagne but kinda close but with kick ....From what I read apparently the kick fades after 6-8 month's the older it get the smother it gets...

This is getting pretty interesting. How long is it supposed to age before you drink it? (I've also never tried mead).

What is Mead?

As for the ATF, I think this may have been covered in my still making thread.... legally, you can make a regulated and defined amount of fermented beer/ale you want for personal consumption... its only when you run that wash through a still and refine it to concentrated alcohol is where the ATF gets upset that they're not getting their tax money.... they could care less about safety issues and if you go blind, its all about them not getting their dollar.
