Took a couple of guys from church shooting yesterday. One is a local professional diver, and the other a German immigrant who served as a combat soldier with the 2nd Infantry Division! I helped Rob, the diver, develop a good trigger pull with his Glock .40, and he improved from 8" groups to 2" groups! Ziggy, well, the old boy didn't need any help! :)

Both of them shot the Beretta CX4 9mm Carbine very well and loved the Aimpoint. But both fell in love with my M4 and proceeded to deplete my entire can of Georgia Arms "Canned Heat!" I forgot to whip out the camera until we went to the shotgun range, so I didn't get any handgun or CX4 pics, but did get a couple of the M4 with my Blackberry.

We eventually moved over to the shotgun range to shoot some clay pigeons. They brought their nice break action, side by side 12 gauges. Since I don't really have any more "hunting" shotguns, I brought my Mossberg 500 "Tacti-Cool" Breacher. LOL!!! The most surprising thing was, I asked everyone not to laugh at me as I approached the line. I turned on the Micro-Dot, yelled "PULL" and nailed the first five clays!!!!

I turned around and everyone is losing it. I shrugged, loaded up 5 more and one in the tube and yelled "PULL!" I nailed all six!!!! Thinking it was some kind of fluke, I let the two guys I was with, and two young guys who had a New England single shot have a try. Rob nailed 10 in a row. Ziggy nailed like 7 out of 10. And the two young guys nailed more than they missed!

Now, I was shooting #8 loads, and I'm thinking that since my Mossy has an effective 16" of cylinder bore with 2.5" of muzzle device, that the shot was spreading out pretty quick - allowing for a nice spread to demolish the clays! That's the only thing I can think of that allows this non-hunting arm to do so well on the pigeons. I dunno, but it was friggin' fun!!!!

Here's a few of the pics I was able to snap...

The only negative to the day is a 720rd box of Radway Green 62gr 5.56 that I've had in my closet for a decade. After buying it, I heard the rumors of it being undercharged and causing short stroking in direct impingement AR15s. Well, sure enough, I tried them out and they indeed will fire. But they fail to push the bolt carrier back enough to strip a round from the magazine. Pisses me off that I have 700 rounds of useless ammo.

If I had a 5.56mm AK, or a piston driven 5.56, I'd probably be OK. But at this time, I am SOL... :-(

Sounds like it's time to invest in a 5.56 precision bolt gun.

Has anyone else ever shot clays with a "tactical" shotgun? How about one with an electronic aiming device?

How did it do against the pigeons? I was extremely surprised how easy it was to hit...

at first not too good, the sights suck for pigeons but once I got the feel of it I could hit 80%.

I had one of those cans- that's one of the reasons I bought my SAR 3.

Even then, the Radway had more than a few dead primers- that was some really shitty ammo.

Yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do with it. I'll probably just throw it back in the closet... :-/
