Picked this up last night. Don't see these locally much - Finnish M27 built on 1905 Tula rfeceiver.

Some day - not all my Mosins have been fired by me - there are too many

Oh that's very nice! An M27 Fin, sweet! I see it has the D marked barrel so it can use any 7.62x54r ammo and the rear sight looks to still be in Arshins.

Yup, updated chamber. The sight is renumbered to meters and an additional 200 meter step milled in. The ears on the sides of the rear sight slider are there to keep the sight from being damaged with a sideways blow. The arshins have been milled off.

So can you folks tell me what ammo you cannot use if it doesn't have a "D" stamp???

Longer throat or what???

This one is new to me and I would like to know more about it.

Chances are slim you'll find a Finnish Mosin Nagant without the D marking. All the Mosin rifles the Fins ever had were captured Russian rifles, the 91's mostly early on. Later the started capturing 91-30 models. The Finns rebarreled the Mosin rifles they first captured to use .308 diameter bullets. As you see with that model 27 they also changed up the stocks as well.

The 7.62x54r round normally uses a .310" diameter bullet. Eventually the Finns figured out that they were handicaping themselves with the .308 barrel and bullet standard. They kept defeating the Russians and capturing mega tons of 54r ammo that they couldn't use in their weapons. So eventually they changed to match the Russians bullet and bore specs. This is the D marking's meaning the barrel is going to be happy with .310" bullets.

Thanks for the info.

I had some Barnaul one time that wouldn't chamber in my rifle, meaning I couldn't close the bolt. But it worked in my buddies rifle just fine. If I remember right they were 205 grns. and alot longer than the surplus stuff. (the bullet that is) At the time we didn't have a clue about or understand throat and barrel dimensions, so we couldn't figure it out.

My rifle is one of the early ones with a hex. shape (much like the one above) and I am pretty sure it is French made. My buddies rifle is a much later one with a rounded receiver. His is Russian.

Anyway, that's a good looking rifle Vit and I like how you did the photo's...

Congratulations Vit!!! That really makes me miss the two I once had. Great shooting rifle, at least mine were. Every bit as accurate as my M39.

When this collapse comes, I will know who the king is of the roaming band of Mosin armed nomads wandering around in the southern half of the state.
