NIMITZ's Handguns

I just found out these were on my ship. One is ADM Nimitz's sidearm, a Colt .380, from while he was on active duty. The other, a Colt .22 target pistol, was his target pistol. Both are engraved with either his name, on the .22, or his initials, on the .380. You can see his name on the .22, getting a picture of his initials was much more difficult because of the color of the metal. His initials are just above the grip. If you look carefully you can see the discoloration where they are. I read that when operations were in progress ADM Nimitz would take the .22 out to the range while he waited for reports.

They have been in storage for years, only taken out to clean an oil. I think it is just sad that these are no longer fired.

Wow that's a nice post L, sorry I missed it just after your original posting. I'm surprised Nimitz's handguns are still on the ship instead of having been part of his estate.
