does anyone have any experience or other knowledge about CeraKote gun coatings? http://www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/

their website talks a good game but so do all the others. if it's really that damned durable then everyone should be shouting their praises.

what say you guys?

Cerakote is a KG Industries finish like GunKote. I have not used the CeraKote, I have used KG Industries GunKote product extensively. I love the GunKote product. The CeraKote from all I've read about it is for high heat application orginally; Auto exhaust manifolds, suppressors as example. I believe several suppressor makers use the Cerakote on their full auto rated suppressors.

Do you need it on the entire weapon, probably not as only the barrel has the potential to get beyond 350° F kind of hot. It won't hurt anything and it probably is better than about anything else that could be put on a weapon for finish.

thanks for the info Schuetz.

a local guy wants $140 to do a pistol - full tear down, blast the old finish (CZ 82) and coat it in basic black.

i've been looking at various options to re-do this pistol and i think i'm down to a $30 park kit. i'm not paying half of the 82's value on a hot blue, professional park or paint job when i can do it myself. if slamfire can do it, so can i!

now if i can just get over my irrational fear of a full pistol disassembly.

No experience with it on firearms but I just started carrying this Benchmade 710 today and it has a clear Cerakote on the blade. Will see how it holds up over the next weeks/months of daily use. Unfortunately it's a new release so there isn't much feedback yet for other purchasers. If it holds up well on a knife blade through daily use I would expect it to do fine on a firearm.

I plan on cerakoting my first AR build after watching MAC's review of it.

At the moment I plan on using a blemished stripped upper and blemished lower, with a few upper parts done too......maybe the buffer tube while I'm at it as well. My issue at the moment is trying to get ahold of one of the "local" shops to actually return my calls/email so I can get an estimate for cost and time.....starting to get a tad annoyed.

I am intrigued....

My preban HK93 is in need of refinishing and I have been at a loss over the years on just who to send her to for what.

the more i look at cerakote the more i like it, but i still can't justify $140 to refinish a $200 pistol. then again i've seen some really nice refinishes on the '82 over at CZ Forums.

i'm so damned cheap i'm probably gonna strip it and use the Oxpho-Blue i have on the shelf. zero out of pocket, just my labor.

Stip it and do one of those stove top Park jobs on it. Once you get it parked then you could spay paint it with GunKote or the CeraKote from Brownell's and bake it on in your oven at 320 degrees. http://www.brownells.com/search/index.htm?k=CeraKote&ksubmit=y

http://www.kgcoatings.com/protective-coatings/3400-series-ceramic-fill/ KG Industries Ceramic coating. Evidently Cerakote isn't a KG product, thought it was given the K spelling of Coat.
