That almost happened to me on a marlin fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas a few years ago.

I'd hooked up a 220lb striped marlin and the captain started to back up the boat, against the ocean swells, every time a swell hit the fantail a foot of water came over the side. While i was fighting the fish the other three guys were bailing water out the back of the boat. Took an hour and 45 mins to land the fish, probably could have brought him in sooner if i wasn't preoccupied with the captain sinking the god damned boat.
