5.56 isn't much on penetration. At 50 yards shooting a bowling pin it won't even go through the small head on top of the pin. Only part it can get through is the neck. Shoot the same bowling pin with a .30-06 or a 54r chambered rifle and it goes through the fattest part of the bottom. The point is, if that was a real LOG cabin none of the 5.56 rounds made it through the walls, only an open window.
