Hey all, I was just making an observation and I wanted to know if any of you guys have experienced the same thing. I looked at a few of my local gun stores, and noticed that all of the .22 lr ammo is gone. What do you guys make of this? :wondering:

Just part of the fact that about all ammo is impossible to find. When people couldn't get their standard ammo, or when they could but didn't want to pay the prices, .22LR was a nice alternative but soon everybody turned to .22LR just to keep shooting, and now there isn't enough to go around. It'll return in a few months.

At the pawn shop I was at 2 days ago he wanted 50 bucks for a 500 pack. 10 frickin cents a round. Not much less at the last gunshow, Some 500 packs for 40 bucks.

Unlike 2008, this time .22 seemed to go immediately and yet there is still .45acp available to some degree.

But even stranger, where are the mosins?!

I've noticed the same thing with .45 ACP. No handgun ammo anywhere except one store still has about 15 boxes of .45. I buy a box a week. I'll keep doing that until it either runs out, or different ammo starts showing up again. I figured the .45 would have been one of the first to be gone, but it isn't. Weird.

.22LR dried up quickly right after centerfire ammo disappeared. 12 Gauge birdshot is all I can find in my neck of the woods, and even then the 100-round value packs are non-existent.

Just checked Gunbroker. They're getting multiple bids at $200+. :(

The gun show last weekend I found one 325 round box and he was asking $45...

Pretty much what everyone has already said. I've been looking for CCI Stingers. I found out my last trip shooting that my dedicated .22 LR AR15 upper loves that stuff. I'm getting Nickle sized groups from it at 25 yards, just one jagged hole. The other ammo that comes close to it is Aguila Super Maximum but it makes more Quarter sized groups. Everything else is measured in the 2" group size range and they don't cycle the weapon 100%.

lol, I was looking around on youtube to see if anyone was making videos about the .22 shortage. This guy has a pretty interesting story, about his experience at walmart.

Funny but sad. Some people have a dilusional mind.... legends in their own minds about how important they are. This is that first in line customers problem IMO.

The guy who posted the video also made a very good point too. If this is the way people act whenever they can't get .22 ammo, just imagine if SHTF really did happen, and people couldn't get any food in the store.

My local Scheels finally got some 525 count boxes of Federal .22lr for $25. And there seems to be plenty of 7.62x54R. Everything else is pretty much gone but shotgun shels.

Western NY has lots of .22 for sale on armslist at really high prices. Not buying
now and have enough for a summer of plinking, .223-nope, 7.62x39-nope, lots
of 12ga birdshot and slugs.

What is happening? I would think dealers and gun shops would be restocking .22rl by now but I still can't find any...

Im still entertaining the conspiracy theory that DHS bought it all, not necessarily to shoot us with, but so there isn't any left for us.

I've been to Wal-mart in three towns, a dozen gun shops and pawn shops, Academe and only the little local shop rationing one box of 50 a week has .22LR...

Edit to add: I've spent two mornings searching the net and am signed up for "notify me" at maybe a dozen sites...

Everywhere else has .270, .243, 30-06, 7 Mag... basically just hunting ammo for bolt guns. .17HMR seems to still be in stock. Maybe I should buy a rifle in that...

Well, we all know about the Newtown gun and ammo and magazine buying panic.

.22LR is the most common and owned caliber in the country.

It is sold most often in bulk -300 to 500 rounds per pack. That alone accellerates the depletion of inventories.

Further, people are not just buying what they need plus a little more -they're hoarding.

And in additon to shooters and people wanting to stock up for their own use, we have preppers who are stocking up for "shtf currency value".

There's a lot of demand and only so much production. So, you get shortages until things even out.

Expect precipitous price increases until stocks build up and put pressure on the retailers to reduce prices again.

Which we all know will take a while. A long while, unfortunately. :(

I've notice a little more showing up at the gun shows in this area, more then what has been
but it ends up going real quick...

It's now at the stage where you can get it - plenty available on-line - just use ammoseek and you'll see. But the prices are ridiculous - $81 per brick and up.
