They have been stored in cool places and not sooo cool places. I am not sure what to do with them. I am too afraid to open them. I am only holding onto them now for potential barter value, should the need arise.

They should be fine. Unless they were stored in a hot attic or something like that. Over time they will lose nutritional value as will all long term stored foods. Go ahead and try one.

sunlight and high heat are the only issues you'd have.

stored in a cool dry closet theyll last a long long time.

Uh, yeah, EAT one. Try it. I have always heard that if bad they will expand and bloat up. You'll know if they are bad.....

Oh, and watch out for the cheese.
It'll plug you for a month if you eat too much.
Enjoy.

Jalapeno juice, lots and lots of jalapeno juice.

If they're bad,the jalapeno will help kill the salmonella and maybe you won't die

If they're still good the jalapeno will kill the taste

When i was in the marines we ate C rations, i swear some of the cans i ate were at least 10 years old

Id still eat them. My wife is one of those people that throws food out as soon as its past the expiration date. I want to throw her out some times but I havent found the exp date anywhere yet.

If there were bacteria or micro organisms in the food the airtight bags would burst.

The food is fine. It might look a little mummified but MREs generally do anyway.

I have eaten things at sea that have expired years ago and i am fine. Including salad dressing, cookies and granola bars.

I thought it was there so you are able to shit after eating this delight

On further thoughts..My favourite included item is the bread bun. It is the most unique and delicious part of every complete MRE breakfast. Using the squeeze pack of peanut butter if you are lucky enough to get one is pure bliss.
