So you can have a standard capacity magazine, you will just have to register it.

Yep, the fact that murder, guns in a school, guns in a gun free zone, theft and a few other things didn't deter Lanza, but this sure would have! Epic fail!

A new state-issued eligibility certificate would also be needed to purchase any rifle, shotgun or ammunition under the legislation. To get the certificate, a buyer would need to be fingerprinted, take a firearms training course and undergo a national criminal background check and involuntary commitment or voluntary admission check.

Six relatives of Newtown victims visited the Capitol on Monday, asking lawmakers to include a ban on existing high-capacity magazines. Some handed out cards with photographs of their slain children.

this is sad, YET it's what pawns of a socialist regime do.

Will there be a department of magazine registry? Will someone do spot checks on each one to physically verify the registration number? All magazines to be engraved? A certificate issued for each one?

Madness.

Yep thanks for reinforcing the fact step by step is the goal. There's never any ending until complete disarmament for these fucktards.

if the magazine doesn't have a serial number maybe they will do what Canada did in its heyday of stupidity for rifles with no serial number. MAil you a sticker with a serial number. A sticker made of paper and environmentally friendly glue... That falls off when it becomes wet.

I am sure glad we are past that bullshit.

It boogles my mind that the majority of the states pushing for and approving these violations of our rights are the same ones that fought originally so we could have them in the first place.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed this little gem. It is not their goal to achieve total disarmerment at one shot, though they would take it if they could get it. The goal is to take encroach a little now, then a little in another year of two, then a little more, so people don't notice the loss of liberty until it is too late. The analogy of boiling a frog slowly comes to mind. It never even knows it is in trouble until it is dead.

How, exactly, is a magazine supposed to be "registered"? In order to do so, it would have to have a serial number.......

If everyone pitched in $10-40 more a year school security would be a non issue.

School security would be FREE if they had parent volunteers guard the school. Depending on how many gun owning parents the school had, they could rotate once every two weeks or once a month and just sit in the school office with a nice 12 ga shotgun (where all visitors would have to pass through to get in).

Nobody would dare try to get past a shotgun to shoot anyone else. Simply knowing the school had an ARMED guard would keep 99.999% of the nuts from even THINKING about trying.

Or we can register magazines that only can be loaded with 7 rounds........

My guess is you will have to register the type, make, capacity and number of the mags you have. If you are audited you'll have to show the registered mags or provide proof of where they went if no longer in your possession.

The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, creates a new "ammunition eligibility certificate,"

What's most funny about all this is, the magazine registry was a compromise away from a total ban, the lawmakers said so themselves.

How many times have we heard "moderate" antis claim they only want registration not confiscation? That there is no "slippery slope" and that pro-gunners are just being paranoid for suggesting so?

Yet here we are again. Obviously, registration is only a stepping stone towards their ultimate end-goal... and once the next mass-shooting happens despite the registry, it will be all the proof they need that "Yep, we need a total ban."

Give them an inch... and you know the rest.

Sounds like they want to treat gun owners like sex offenders, publishing their names and addresses for the whole world to see.

I've already heard a few extreme antis suggesting that guns should be treated like kiddie porn and eradicated with the same vengeance.

The cognitive dissonance is great with some of them...

Worst case scenario is during a home invasion, the homeowner saves the lives of himself/herself, their spouse and children only to find the register police arresting the homeowner for using an unregistered mag.

Or the worst case is they just lose their minds completely and just start breaking down the doors of every known gun owner who didn't pay the magazine registration tax.

Well notice they tried it in the north not the south.

No way. They really did?

From what I have heard they did really do that up in Canada.

When I heard about it that is the first thing that crossed my mind. I don't know about you but most my mags don't have serial numbers. I suppose they will make every one bring them in when they register them and put one on them. Or perhaps they pulled a New York and forgot about reality in their hurry to pass a gun control bill. Kind of like when you ban mags over 7 rounds but forget to exempt your own police from it. Which if you ask me is only fair. Why is it the government is always exempt from its own rules? Are the police just armed killers? Then why do they need a magazine over 7 rounds if all those are good for is murdering people? I also wonder if they thought far enough ahead to go gee I wonder how we are going to afford to be able to put serial numbers on all these mags and keep track of them. Government bureaucracy doesn't come cheap. Perhaps it will end up like the long gun registry in Canada, an expensive and useless failure that eventually gets scraped.

Agreed, JUST SAY NO! Tell them you don't own any mags. When no one comes out to register their second amendment rights, what are they going to do? And if they start something, they are not far from Concord, and we are not far from April 19.

2 things come to mind, start a garden this spring buring tomatoes and such, and ask Colt Firearms if they are staying in that damn state? My understanding is that they are a 1.6 billion dollar a yr industry in Conn. If so thats a chunk of change, much bigger than Magpul in Colorado and their main weapon is the AR. Last i heard from their CEO was that they were not feeling to welcome up there after 178 yrs in business. We will see? Conn gun owners only account for 16% of state voters there which is why they are doing it there. Not enough clout i guess. I am glad the DEMs dont run my state right now, good lord they are going flat out crazy with this shit. At 60 i can not believe these people are slowly destroying everything we have fought for the last 15-20 yrs or so, the fight goes on gents.

Next thing these Democrat polesmokers will demand, is that the dreaded "hicap" mag be made an NFA-category item.

Sure you can own them. At $200 a pop with the tax stamp, and after all the ATF paperwork...

It is now official as the governor of The Constitution State signed the now law banning future purchases and sales of magazines holding more than 10 rounds and adding by name 100 firearms to the list of banned weapons. If I understand it, current owners of now illegal weapons have a time limit to register them.

Constitution, we don't recognize your stinkin' constitution.

The law specifically bans Colt products by name. The state has made it clear it doesn't want them - just their tax money.

It's time they pull out and say no banned products for LEA.

Right now, this could happen. In NY, there's that "7 rounds in the mag" rule. Bad guy breaks into your house, you defend yourself and then call the cops, cops find you have 8 rounds left in the mag, you get charged with a misdemeanor (or violation - not sure which). I think it's a violation inside the home and a misdemeanor outside the home.

BUT!!!!!! In his infinite wisdom, the governor allows you to have 10 rounds in the mag at an "approved shooting range". I guess target shooting is more important that defending your family from thugs.

One by one most of these unconstitutional statutes will be overturned with time. The supreme court has already spoken on this issue.
