Oregon gunshop owner indicted as gun dealing probe takes international turn

Federal prosecutors investigating a Canadian man caught with a large cache of guns at a Blaine storage locker have indicted the man's partner in a McMinnville, Ore., gun shop, alleging the men conspired to deal high-end firearms.

The indictment filed last week shed little light on Oliver King, a would-be gun dealer now the subject of an international investigation. Writing the court, King's own attorney describes him as having had multiple contacts with the CIA, the Department of Defense and other national security agencies prior to his arrest.

Federal prosecutors in Seattle now contend King conspired with his business partner, Amir Zarandi, to illegally deal guns inside the United States. The indictment stops short of alleging anything beyond unlawful dealing of guns to others within the U.S. and, on King's part, making false statements to border guards during more than a dozen trips across the Canadian border.

Something tells me this is going to be an interisting story when all is said and done. I have to wonder with the names and activities engaged in if these guys weren't planing to help arm terrorists in Canada or perhaps the US.

Watch Northwest gun case become fodder for prohibitionists

September 13th, 2010 9:13 am PT

Expect a case now headed to federal court in Seattle to become something of a “poster child” for gun prohibitionists demanding crackdowns on federally licensed firearms retailers on the presumption they are arms traffickers.

Some gun dealers in the Southwest are already under scrutiny for the number of guns they’ve sold having shown up in Mexico. But now comes the very curious case of Oliver King and his apparent business partner, Amir Zarandi, and a gun shop in McMinnville that appears to have been nothing more than an empty office, at least for some months. Quoting the McMinnville newspaper, "In October 2009, the landlord for the business told the ATF that the space leased to the company had not been occupied for three months and was being paid for with Canadian cashier's checks."
