Considering bidding on some MA2A1 & M19A1 ammo cans going up for auction on govbids. I would not bid them other than they are local and I have a few items to pickup anyways.

How are they grade if graded at all. They are used, all have lids, some are fresh, some crusty and others are overall good condition but painted "EMPTY" in white or sides are painted over in black paint.

Does the paint over kill their value?

Thoughts or advice appreciated.

Outside paint would not be a negative for ME.
I know nothing bout grading.
A quick search found bout 191 MA2A1 cans with a bid just over $100.
Just a little over a day left on that auction.
I'd say go for it if you can get the cans for $2 or less.

A can needs to be dent free and have a good seal to command value. The seal is especially important, they are supposed to be water proof.

Good seal, good handle, locks tightly, everything else is details. I'm going to repaint anyway,

Thanks for the advice. I missed 20mm cans last year that sold for $8 each in a lot of 200ish cans.

I'll bid these 50 cal cans up to $4 each and see how it goes and/or cost someone else a bunch of dough.

Id buy them for 4$ all day long if the seal and inside is good, Crappy ones around here go for 18$ all the time

If anyone is near Cherry Point NC, look at the cans they are selling in huge lots of 500 to 1000 and more cans.

Damn, the last two cans I got were 22 + shipping and they are made out of plastic, good cans but yipes. Before that I paid 18 ea for 6 cans and before that I paid 14 for 4 cans. I could use another 20 or 30 cans easy, 50 cal preferred but 30 cal acceptable if I could get them at the price you are talking about. If you can get a mess of cans for a really nice price I would be happy to pay a little extra plus shipping for a couple of dozen cans, if you interested and willing to repack and ship.

Average auction sale price for 50cal (dated2002-2007) can = $5.71 each when buying 250ish cans in a lot.

The can auctions in my area ended today at 5pm. Something tells me ammo can prices will go up very soon on the retail market.

AIM has new 50cal Korean cans for $14.95 each, they are a little thinner at the hinges so to speak compared to the USA made cans. There are surplus stores here in town that sell used 50 cal cans usually for $12-$14/each. I've been tinkering with the idea of building some good ole pine plank crates with manila rope handles and that's the direction I'm now pointed for storage.

If anyone sees something at the gov auctions in the south eastern seaboard region of the ol' USA that they want to bid and win I can consign the pickup and delivery for a reasonable rate. No pickup, rigging or shipping to large or small.

Wow, the most I ever paid for a .50 cal. can was $5 bucks. When I did shows in NC there was an old guy and his wife that sold cans for cheap. New minty ones were $6 or $8 each, can't remember. But he had 2nd rated ones he'd sell for $3 bucks each. I bought the crap out of those. Probably had 100 or more at one time.

I've bid on lots from 240 to 1400 and to me they are going just too high. I've seen $7 each on lots. If you have much in poor shape and don't retail them yourself I don't see how you make any cash...

The ammo cans are back on govliq... Looks to be smaller quantities than this past go around and Friday's winning bids seem to be the new norm of $6+ each can when buying 150 - 250 cans in a lot. I'm taking on the new strategy of bottom feeding in the last 15th minute of the auctions, win or lose.
