U.S. Says Deadly MERS Virus Could Affect Nat’l Security

(CNSNews.com) – As Saudi and U.N. health authorities report new infections from a troubling new respiratory disease, there are concerns that the approaching Hajj – the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca – could increase the risk of spreading the virus as pilgrims return to their home countries.

Meanwhile the U.S. government, in a notice published in the Federal Register Wednesday, declared that the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV, or simply MERS) could potentially “affect national security or the health and security of United States citizens living abroad.”

Is it wrong to wish?

Saudi Arabia says more than two million Muslims – including roughly 20,000 from the United States( that shouldn't be allowed to return) – visit Mecca for the Hajj, which brings large numbers of people into close proximity in a confined geographical area over a five-day period. This year’s pilgrimage falls in mid-October.

That said, fine, shut down all travel originating from or through the middle east or northern Africa until it can be determined that there is no longer a threat.

Stinker is right about how every new disease is considered a "national threat." I lost complete faith in the CDC when they went political and determined that firearm deaths is a preventable "disease." Of course, this plays right into the hands of the ruling political/socialist party. Just one more way to gain control over the masses and encroach on our freedoms.

IF the government tried to curtail travel to the ME, I'm sure the Muzzies would scream religious descrimination and the ACLU would come to their aid, fighting for their right to infect us all.
