for me it's first and foremost a Buck. As a life member of the BCCI "Buck Collectors Club Inc." I love the traditional styling of wood and steel like the 110 and 112 as well as the numerous fixed blades and slip joints but that hasn't kept me from enjoying their Buck/Strider and Buck/Hood collaborations or their newer Vantage, Spitfire and Paradigm offerings. If it's a Buck it's probably going to be something I like,

In addition to Buck I tend to favor, Zero Tolerance, Benchmade and Kershaw with dozens of each of those brands in all styles. Out of perhaps 40 different brands covering knives ranging in price from under $10 to over $400 those four are the ones I collect and use the most.

What about the rest of you?

I like Cold Steel for their tactical knife designs and what I consider to be good value, and Buck for a more traditional production knife that is made in the USA.

Knife collecting isn't my primary hobby, so I don't have any fancy expensive custom knives. The highest value knife I have is my Buck 184. I'm sure the custom knives blow away anything I have any experience with.

Customs are something I haven't gotten into yet. My CRK Sebenza is my most expensive knife but it is a cadillac for sure.

I have to say my favorite is Ontario. I have two of the USAF Pilot's knives. One I have had for almost 20 years and I abused that thing quite a bit. It has cut line, rope and small brush, the saw it great for getting square cuts into fertilizer bags. Its been thrown at trees, used for unjamming my buddies AR-15 and the butt of it used for hammering a variety of things. That poor knife has been abused more than a knife should. I even used it one time to cut a 15 inch tire off a rim! That is rubber metal wiring and everything!! Took me forever to get the edge back but the ole thing did it.

Now I have a new one with issue sheath. My old one was used (possibly mil-surplus) and I didn't have the issue sheath. I wore my new one today mowing the yard on my belt. Used it to cut back some brush that was in the way.

Also the new redesigned Navy Mk 0 Combat knife by Ontario is built like a freaking tank. I got that one and love the feel and balance of it.

I have to admit for pocket knives I am old fashioned....I love my Schrade's and Case knives.

Excellent. I don't know how I forgot Spyderco in my list of favorites, I've probably got a couple dozen. My favorites are probably the Paramilitary in CPMD2 and the Gayle Bradley in M4 steel. Great knifes.

You have a paramilitary in CMPD2? You lucky.... I just have a standard Paramilitary in CMP S30V. (Great steel!) but I've always been a fan of D2 steel. I also have a Manix 2 lightweight with the flat ground CTS BD1 steel. Haven't really formed an opinion on the steel yet, but like all Spydercos, arrives, takes, and holds a crazy sharp edge.

Yep, got it quite a few years ago. It's not supposed to be that different from regular D2 but I've found it a lot easier to sharpen and it holds an edge very well. It's the only Paramilitary I have. My other is a Para II with carbon fiber and S90v.

From the date on my photos I got in almost three years ago. Seems longer than that. I carry it quite a bit. If I ever run across another at a bargain price I'd pick it up for a spare.

That's one I'm working on acquiring. Was working a deal on one but it fell through. Beautiful knife.

I used to have one of the Air Force survival knifes but don't recall know if it was actually military surplus or a commercial version or who made it. As I recall it was a decent knife. The closest to what you have is a newer KaBar. It's a pretty nice blade but I don't know how faithful it is the the original version? Wonder if the USMC still issues them?

This Gerber is one I keep in my truck on occasion. I like the insulated handle which could come in handy if you had to lift a hot wire off something and the butt would break a car window.

Yeah those little Air Force knives are work horses. The Ontario Navy knife I have is nothing like a Ka-bar. In the 1980's Ontario got the contract to make this for the US Navy. The first one looked exactly like an AK bayonet...like this. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd38/schattupon/usn-mk3.jpg

Then they widened the clip point...to strengthen the tip.....http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/sw3015/OntarioMk3Mod0NavyKnifeSmall_zpsf73853f9.jpg

Its a best to sharpen...but it is also a beast in work and penetration of things. It does as good as maybe some better than my two USMC Kabars in punching two liter bottles full of water and tightened down really tight.

I'll check it out. The Gerber I posted also comes with the seatbelt cutter and has a sharpener built into the sheath.
