Jamie Lunsford said the company violated her rights by firing her after they discovered she had a gun in her car while on business. Lunsford said the company violated her right to carry a permitted, concealed weapon in her car.

Can companies require employees to disarm on 'company business'?

"Woman Fired For Carrying Gun On The Job," the WSBTV.com headline tells us.

"Jamie Lunsford said the company violated her rights by firing her after they discovered she had a gun in her car while on business."

So she wasn't actually "carrying," was she? Still, how did her employer discover that she had a gun in her car? Apparently she disclosed it to security guards while visiting a federal Reserve Bank on company business, and they "had no problem with it."

A spokesman for the company sent Bojorquez a statement that read in part, “Georgia law allows workers to leave a firearm in their vehicle in a company parking lot. The law does not, however, permit an employee to carry a firearm while conducting company business."

I hope this company gets slapped down hard for this mindset.
Being 'on company business' is not an excuse to violate civil rights or to violate state law.
This is Bullshit and I want that woman to get a big pile of money.

A former employee of Iron Mountain Information Management Inc. has challenged the company to a legal duel in Gwinnett County Superior Court in Georgia over its employees' rights to possess guns.

Magistrate Kristina H. Blum, sitting by designation for Judge Debra K. Turner, heard arguments on the matter last week and is expected to rule soon.

At issue is Jamie Lunsford, who had worked for the document-shredding company for six years when she was fired for carrying a handgun in her car.

By now you have probably heard about the fiasco going on in one of the Carolinas where they passed a law prohibiting carrying outside your home in the event of a natural disaster. This is despite the fact that several states passed legislation "post-Katrina" to PREVENT something like this.
