more refinishing questions

Hey every one, I know I know another one about refinishing a ak, like we haven't seen enough. Ok but I got a question. Once I strip the wood stocks, is there any kind of cleaning I should do to the wood before I start to sand it? Thanks!

I personally have never done anything more than just that, strip the finish off, do some light sanding and refinish.

For the most part that's it. If you want to make the effort to raise the grain and then sand you will end up with a smoother stock but that's what I do for high value sporter rifle stocks. On an AK stock I'm pretty much F-it it's an AK and doesn't deserve such effort.
