Yes, they are c&r eligible. But if you're buying directly from Mitchell they are considered way over-priced and have no real collectable value.

Yup! The "age" is based on the age of the receiver.

Hence some Finn Mosins from WWII being full on "antique" status and requiring no papers for transfer. They were built on old azz Russian receivers.

The reason people don't like Mitchel is he force matches parts, forges the "certificates of authenticity" and represents the arms as rare collectibles in perfect condition.

So "collectible" they are not.

They are really beautiful refurbs though. So if all you want is a cherry mauser and they're worth the price IYO, then get it and enjoy it! I doubt you'll find prettier ones anywhere else.

How many years ago? Doesn't really matter as Mitchell's takes average surplus weapons, refinishes them and then sells them for a premium price. Superficially they look great. I've seen them bill M48 Yugo Mauser rifles as K98k rifles so either their add agency doesn't know the diff or they are trying to sucker people that don't know the difference. When Russian captured K98k's hit the market in 2002 I could get them for $200. At the same time Mitchell's was putting price tags of about $400 on their refinished weapons. I can't say if they are force matching parts to try and create more historically accurate to the arsenal weapons or not. I haven't been able to examine more than one in person.

Throw some photos up here, if you can get some good close ups of markings on the receiver and barrel, etc. I can review them and look in my Olson book on Mauser rifles.

I bought one used awhile back, and it's a nice shooter. Re-marked or not I'll never know, but they did a great job on the restoration and I'm very pleased.
