As I mentioned the other day I haven't made a hooch run in a while, especially a bourbon run. I wasn't looking for anything too extravagant, just good hooch to get me through the rest of the football season.

This will work..

I think I'll reserve the 4-Roses for tomorrow nights Chiefs game. ;)

If you remember, you got me started with Buffalo Trace, 4 Roses, and Bulliet.

Which are all good, no? I need to one day here soon, pick up a jug of Bulliet rye, haven't had any of that sweet juice in a while.

So, Stan, what are we drinking and smoking today?

I just lit up a Hoyo Epi-2 and poured a glass of Buffalo Trace. Its all good. ;)

Yes. All some of the best values out there. The EC12 is a go to.
Currently on an Espinoza Zona. Can't drink bourbon this early in the day but
last night had a pour of the Handy Rye from this years Buffalo Trace Antique Collection(BTAC).

Damn you! Its in really poor form to talk about offerings not available here in fly over country!

So, how was the rye?

And what the heck are you talking about? Its afternoon here, let alone there. ;)

This Epi-2 is about gone, I'm thinking of digging into my "other" humidor and selecting one of the excellent non-Cuban selections I got via the box pass. :)

Damn! I gotta tell ya, this Buffalo Trace is tasting nice, and is excellent pairing with the Epi-2. :)

You can't go wrong with any one of those three. If pressed I'd give the slight edge to the Elijah 12.

I'd second that, Matt.

Yeah, hard to go wrong with EC. Theres a version of this that has more age to it, but I've never seen it in the store.

There is the barrel proof, which is in it's 3rd release and I can not find. Think it's around $50.
Further there is the single barrel I have seen but is $120+. Too rich for my blood.

Well, its excellent. I haven't had any in some time, so you'll have to wait for specifics. I'm tentatively thinking it would be a suitable companion for an Opus X.

Cool. Would you call it a more refined expression of the 12 year EC? Its the same hooch with more barrel time, right?

Well, the short answer is no. They are bottled at different strengths and the 12 is blended from numerous casks whereas the single barrel is by definition bottled from one cask.

Yeah, I see that now. I'm surprised the 18 is actually lower in proof. I tend to prefer 90, tho the 12 at 96 is still pretty smooth. What I don't really care for is stuff at like 110 or higher. I like the the tastes of corn, rye and oak over ethyl.

Good stuff, worth every penny. Got just a tad bit of spice, a little sweetness and is smooth.

Yeah, $25 is probably the most I've had to pay. Ran across a sale in a grocery store for $18.95 a 5th, two years ago. I should have bought all they'd sell me, but I just bought 2 jugs.

Thanks guys. I have been hearing a lot about it on the Net, but I haven't seen it yet out in the wild around here. I am definitely gonna keep on the lookout for a bottle.
