all my stuff lately has come one time, shitty time of year though.

When you order something, if you missed the timer for the day for it to be processed/sometimes shipped on that day.
It dont get in till the next day so you're basically looking at 3-6 days, and depending on how busy the actual place selling it is.

Amazon prime all the time. Never any issues. When we ship to the UP house, it usually takes more than two days. After all, that house is off the grid, almost......chris3

I fully understand that ordering too late in the day can add some time, but when amazon has picked the delivery date, and has failed to meet it, it can be annyoing.

Most sites warn of possible shipping delays due to some really bad weather. If we are honest, Amazon has some fantastic deals and shipping usually arrives before it is expected...at least that has been my experience EVERY time.
This. Remember the days of 6-8 weeks for delivery of ANYTHING? When expedite meant less than a month? Yeah. This less than a week stuff is plain amazing, but yeah- it's a pisser when they tell you one thing and you get another.

He added that he doesn't expect the continued growth of Prime members to slow down despite the price increase.

I for 1 will not renew my Prime do to this increase. I've noticed that "Prime" items have risen in price lately. It used to be a big savings to get the free shipping. Not so much now. Often the price is upped to cover the cost of shipping so the consumer is actually paying the same. Pay a cheaper price and pay additional for shipping, or pay the same total price with free shipping.

I've never paid for Prime, but they just recently e-mailed me inviting me to "try it again free for 30 days" a couple weeks ago, so I've been going hogwild watching Prime-eligible movies and reading free Kindle e-books.

- Ordered a 26-inch LED-lit 16:9 widescreen monitor to replace this small 21-inch 4:3 monitor I have now.
- Ordered a heavy hard-cover copy of the chemistry textbook we're using right now.
- Ordered a hard-copy compendium of research on the phylum Mollusca for bio lab.
- Ordered a new bed-set: queen foundation, memory-foam mattress, mattress pad, pillows, sheets, comforter...

All two-day shipped for free, at least $100 in shipping expenses saved, two-day delivery.

Yeah, I'm one of those free-loading customers Amazon hates. (And no, I'm not going to be renewing my Prime membership after the 30-day trial expires.) :p

Hey, its $26/month that I wasn't paying before. And if I never need to see a doctor within the next 10 years? That's $3K towards someone else's healthcare expense that needs it.

But my plan is to finish college and land a $50K/year job. In which case I'll gladly pay the full $230/month premium.

I see nothing wrong with taking a hand-up (versus a hand-out) in the meantime.

Dude, since I've gone back to school I've maintained a 4.0 GPA without hardly even trying. I'm having way too much fun to quit now.

And I have paid net income taxes before, back when I was making nearly $18/hour working for a Fortune 500 company through a technical temp placement agency back in the booming 90's before the economy crashed and employers really started doing the background checks and getting picky about who they hire.

If all goes according to plan, I'll pay back every penny I ever got in Federal subsidies in my whole life within 3 years of working at a real job. After that, the rest is all gravy.

You should see what I did to Netflix before I had school taking up most of my free time! First time I got one of their free 30-day trials, I literally ordered 3 DVDs at a time, as soon as they came in the mail I'd immediately rip them to hard drive to watch at my leisure then throw them back in the mail the very next day so I could get 3 more. I was getting discs in the mail every 3 days, probably burned through at least 25 movies, not to mention the countless dozens of movies I streamed online for free. (I was out-of-circulation for 5 years, so I had a lot of catching up to do!) Of course, I cancelled once the free trial was over. The ironic thing? A year later they offered me ANOTHER free 30-day trial -- again, I accepted it, but they didn't have many new films that I hadn't already seen, so I just watched a few and cancelled before the trial was even over. I've since gotten yet ANOTHER offer for a free 30-day trial, but I declined.

Those companies make all their money with those subscription plans because a very large percentage of their customers simply don't utilize it to get their full money's worth. Like a friend of mine who had 3 discs that he had been sitting on for several months before ever getting around to watching them. THOSE are the suckers that make such subscription plans profitable for those companies.

Like all socialists you are a narcissistic, self-involved rat-bag whose only concern is with your own self-aggrandizement. Even your reasons for going to school have nothing to do with advancing knowledge, but rather with the potential to satisfy yourself and potentially earn accolades to stoke your own ego. There is nothing about about you, nor has there ever been anything about you, that has advanced humanity, nor will there ever be, unless you see some benefit to yourself in the process.

You are the epitome of the capitalist you hate and disdain...he who does so regardless of the harm he causes, all for his own profit. You must be so proud.

Ruh Roh, Looks like Amazon Prime is a SCAM!

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/amazon-customers-accuse-commerce-giant-cheating-prime-members/story?id=22882043

Amazon claims that a $79 annual membership for Amazon Prime provides free two-day shipping on "millions" of items, but for some products, the company is accused of encouraging sellers to inflate shipping prices, according to two recent lawsuits.

“The bottom line is the free shipping that Amazon offered to its Prime members wasn’t free,” said Kim Stephens, attorney for one of the plaintiffs, adding that he was “shocked” by Amazon’s alleged pricing practices.

As if on cue:

Amazon Accused of Cheating Customers Through Shipping Costs

In what she hopes will be certified as a class-action lawsuit, Burke accuses Amazon of encouraging third-party vendors to increase their prices to Prime members by the amount they charged others for shipping, without revealing that a portion of those alleged "inflated" prices was for shipping fees, the lawsuit claims.

"For example, if the price of an item is advertised for $10 with $3.99 shipping and the [vendor] wishes to match or top their price, the [vendor] would charge $13.99 or higher," Burke alleges in the suit.

These sellers raise their prices to match or top their competitor’s total price, as items are sorted by price on Amazon's site, Burke alleges in the lawsuit.

Wow, looks like I struck a nerve...

To start with, I've never forced the taxpayer to subsidize my entire existence by landing myself in prison.

It's not my fault the Feds passed the fascist 1968 Gun Control Act. I was just minding my own business trying to exercise my Second Amendment rights -- but Congress (and subsequently the Idaho State Legislature) shat all over it, thank you very much. And the courts have been too cowardly to scale it back.

I also contribute part of every Saturday, as well as money to a charity of my choice...

Besides the hundreds of hours of court-ordered community service I've done over the years, I've done quite a bit of volunteer work for the local Historical Society, landscaping and grounds maintenance for the Old Penitentiary complex that houses many artifacts and works of art that the public enjoys, as well as a nearly year-long internship stint with the local ACLU before full-time school took up all my free time. Once school is over, I hope to give back as well, perhaps by sponsoring some scholarships through the community college I'm attending now, since I've benefited so much from them myself.

In my job, I write software that helps save the taxpayer money.

Hopefully not by cheating the government out of lawful revenue...

I've contributed more to society in a year than you have in your entire life.

If you say so. :oh:

But if I achieve my dream of working for a large pharmaceutical or genetic engineering firm, I hope to play a key role in helping develop a cure to a serious disease like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. Or maybe even deafness or blindness, if stem cell research keeps progressing at its current rapid pace...

So why don't we compare accolades in, oh, say, 20 years or so?

I was unaware the GCA covered grand theft...do tell. And there's that victim mentality so prevalent on the left...nothing is ever your fault...it's always someone else's.

I only served 6 months (in a paramilitary "boot camp" style program) for the original burglary/grand theft -- a cost to society I paid back in state income and sales taxes within 2 years of working at a decent job and buying stuff locally, not counting the over $19,000 restitution I paid back to my victim, out of my own pocket, out of my income after taxes.

But the 5 years in actual prison came courtesy of the 1968 GCA and many states following suit with similar "felon-in-possession" laws. It's ironic that I spent 10 times as long locked up for what amounts to a "status offense" than I did for the much more serious original crime.

I'm sure all of that was just as voluntary as the taxes I've paid my entire adult life.

You're right, the court-ordered community service wasn't voluntary, but I did go on after completing my court-ordered hours to helping out at various events and fundraisers for a couple of the agencies I worked for. One in particular, a local franchise for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, was run by this foul-tempered broad. She despised us court-ordered assignees and verbally abused us regularly. I remember the time she bitched me out for not putting the toilet seat back down after I took a piss in the single unisex bathroom at the office. I was only 17 and had never heard of the custom, as I had never grew up with any sisters I guess. Anyway, she held this grudge clear through this big volunteer fundraiser event that I helped do setup for on my own, completely voluntary, as I had fulfilled all court-ordered hours months prior. She came up to me afterwards and apologized, as she had been acting snippy towards me all night, bossing me around, not allowing me a break to grab a bite to eat, and just being a real jerk towards me in general. I guess she felt that folks who had to be there were deserving of contempt, whereas the few volunteers who truly came of their own free accord were a cut above the rest. I don't know, but I never volunteered with her again.

But it was also through community service how I also became acquainted with the Historical Society, so in a round-about way my punishments led to some good civic opportunities to continue giving back on my part.

Hey dipstick, guess what? Aiding and abetting a group dedicated to promoting the communist agenda and destroying America is nothing to laud.

..

Dude, if it ever comes to that, it will be groups like the ACLU that fight it to the bitter end. They really are champions of the First, Fourth, and Eighth Amendments. Of course it would be nice if they defended the Second Amendment as well, but at least they don't actively campaign against it, unlike various pro-gun politicians the NRA has endorsed who trample all over the rest of the Bill of Rights through their support of the Drug War and militarized police tactics or what not.

Why am I not surprised a known criminal would see it that way. No, the software I write aids state governments in saving money.

That's cool, and laudable. You know, maybe you're right -- I haven't lived up to my full potential. I could do more to give back instead of take advantage of opportunity and "take, take, take" all the time. But I really don't plan on being this poor and dependent on the government's good graces for much longer. Obama's been good to me, I'll admit -- almost makes me feel sorry for not voting for him in 2012... almost. ;) But once I finish with school and hopefully land a good career, I do expect to give much back -- I feel it would be an obligation at that point. For all the thousands of dollars in PELL and SEOG grants that have helped pay for school, the Obamacare subsidies, the food stamps that got me through tough times right out of prison for 7 months before I finally found a job, etc.

I'm glad we have a safety net, as weak as it is, because there really are a lot of people who could use a hand-up when they fall on hard times. It is unfortunate that some folks abuse it and see it as a permanent hand-out, never trying to better themselves and get out of their rut. But for a lot of people it really is the difference between living on the streets and starving versus keeping their home and getting back on their feet. For a country as wealthy as ours, people really shouldn't have to fall through the cracks like so many do today. Those Scandinavian countries in northern Europe set a good example -- a strong safety net, yet still good incentives for folks to get back up and earn some real income again. We could do better -- but there are powerful voices at work getting the middle-class all riled up and pissed off about what crumbs the poor are getting from the government, while the top 1% laugh all the way to the bank while they rape the middle-class raw and send their good-paying jobs overseas.

So you'd like to compare conditions between gulags? Given the current course set by the commies in charge, that's all the will be left to compare in 20 years.

If we ever do end up with a "prison planet" and gulags for the masses, it won't be because of communists or socialists, but rather the absolute global oligarchy that controls such obscene amounts of wealth. They will live in their heavily guarded fortress-palaces, while they starve the rest of us peons out. Neo-feudalism, in other words. THAT is where we are headed, if the working class doesn't push back.

No, you paid what you should have paid in that time. You cost the taxpayer lost revenue by your actions. Had you been a productive member of society for that six months you could claim you'd benefited your community.

Just as the NRA picks and chooses who and what they support, so does the ACLU. You tell me...which of the two has actively supported and endorsed communist principles over their tenures?

...while the top 1% laugh all the way to the bank while they rape the middle-class raw and send their good-paying jobs overseas.

Gotta love the irony here...while on the one hand you're thanking 0bama, on the other you're decrying the rape of the middle-class...under a POTUS who will destroy it if he has his way...all to keep social misfits like yourself voting for him and his ilk. And you don't even see it...and think you can be a double-naught rocket surgeon...

If the truth of that was less horrifying, I'd almost find it amusing.

I pay the Prime membership because I buy a lot of things for my work through Amazon, and the free "2 day" shipping and significantly reduced next day shipping adder is more than paid for in a month or two. You did what you did, whether through stupidity, avarice, whatever...just fucking own it and admit it was your decisions and actions that fucked you...no one else's.

Be very careful with that blame-the-individual attitude, my friend. Depending on how the political winds blow, maybe a President Chris Christie and an anti-gun congress in 2016, and you can kiss your magazines over 10 rounds good-bye.

Either you obey Queen DiFi and "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in!" or take the same risk I did, and face possible felony charges.

You can put the onus on yourself if you want, but I think the bigger problem is the bullshit gun control law in the first place. The 1968 GCA paved the way for the Brady Bill and everything after. It really was the precedent for all gun control that followed, and will follow in the future, depending on how things shake out.

Just as the NRA picks and chooses who and what they support, so does the ACLU. You tell me...which of the two has actively supported and endorsed communist principles over their tenures?

The ACLU was formed in response to the fascist Palmer Raids: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmer_Raids

Attorney General Alexander Palmer tried to illegally round-up and deport 500 leftist radicals (mostly anarchists, but some communists) who were blamed for various terrorist attacks (small, localized bombings) around the country. But most of the 500 had nothing to do with the attacks.

So that's where the ACLU gets its "pro-communist" reputation, but the truth is they defend every unpopular group who is denied their First Amendment rights, including neo-Nazis whom various cities tried to not allow to march.

They get a bad rap, because they defend the rights of those most persecuted by the government: political radicals (whose First Amendment rights are violated), criminals (whose Eighth Amendment rights are violated), leakers and whistle-blowers (like Edward Snowden), and even drug users and gun-owners (when their Fourth Amendment rights are violated during an illegal search), etc.

In any sort of serious "gun grab" scenario, the ACLU would be the last line of defense in the courts -- assuming Congress and the President had already signed off on such unconstitutional measures.

They aren't your enemy.

Gotta love the irony here...while on the one hand you're thanking 0bama, on the other you're decrying the rape of the middle-class...under a POTUS who will destroy it if he has his way...

Most of the "free trade" agreements sending good-paying jobs overseas have been pushed by the Republicans. Obama campaigned against NAFTA during his campaign, yet not only did he do nothing to reign it in, now he's back-stabbing the labor unions, acting like a Republican pushing the TPP as well. It's mostly Democrats in Congress fighting him on this, but there are enough bought off turn-coats that will vote with the Republicans that the bill will probably make it to Obama's desk and he will sign it. I never said Obama wasn't a corporate puppet. Only that he's given the working poor a few table scraps to smooth things over. Like I said, I didn't vote for him.

I pay the Prime membership because I buy a lot of things for my work through Amazon, and the free "2 day" shipping and significantly reduced next day shipping adder is more than paid for in a month or two. Last fall I bought a poly-barreled cement mixer that weighed 92 labs, and it shipped for free. That one purchase paid my Prime membership.

Yeah, it's probably worth it if you have some really heavy items to ship, but other than the bed-set I just ordered, most of my purchases are pretty small in weight, and are sold by third-parties that aren't eligible for Amazon Prime two-day shipping anyway. So I probably won't renew after this month.
