http://www.gunsnet.net/showthread.php?2489-Current-Ammo-Deals-post-em-up-here!&p=351660#post351660 Posted about it 2 days ago at this thread. Zero replies. Now it is SOLD OUT. Probably was the deal of 2014 for this caliber of ammo. I doubt anybody looked at that thread as it is old and it doesn't show up in What's New when you add to it.

I was in Cabala's at Lehi, Utah last week. They had the Herters steel case for $7.88 per box of 20 each. They also had reloadable brass ammo for $8.88 per box of 20 each. I like the steel cases in the winter as they land in the snow and are lost.

I saw it and declined on it.

I'm shooting up the Wolf I have and am going to avoid Wolf/Tula 7.62x39 for now on. Brown Bear and Golden Tiger are worth the additional 2 or 3 cents per rounds to guarantee I won't get any half charges or dead primers.

I can understand your point of view. When I was an 01 dealer I got in all the different brands of Russian an other countries 7.62x39 and sold them in bulk. I also test fired all of them and benchmarked accuracy for all of them. Wolf Brand ammo for the most part was always the least accurate and by a wide margin. I never did have a dud primer but you shot patterns with it, the Wolf. OTOH the Golden Tiger, Ulyanovsk, Klimvosk, and Barnual are all superior.

I think I had more dud primers from some old copper colored Norinco FMJ ammo (no idea as to what the core was, but it was corrosive) I stumbled across than I have any other x39.

I had to pass on it myself, as I am currently not shooting anything but my mosin with its dirth cheap ammo due to the up and coming move.

With Russia invading the Ukraine you better go buy yourself as much Russian 7.62x54R ammo as you can stand to buy. I predict it is going to be cut off from importation for up to 5 years or more.

I think I'm going to have to suck it up and buy all steel case x39 and x54R I can. I highly doubt Uncle Sam is going to stop at just the Milsurp stuff. >_<

Yeah, I have two unopened cans of 5.45
X39 and just ordered two more. (1008 rounds per can.)

Need another 440 rd can of X54R. Down to three cans of that.

Wish I could find some more Silver Bear 7.62X51 at a reasonable price. It's zinc coated steel case, and my AR-10 loves it.

Unfortunately, I don't have an AK74 variant. But the milsurp ammo availability and cheapness are very titillating... One day, I hope. Just spent $200 that I really can't afford on a spam can of 7.62x54 & 400 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 124 grain FMJ.

Look on the bright side, it doesn't eat anything or bitch at you if you don't take it out to dinner.

I have been hearing that almost all the surplus ammo has been coming from Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Latvia etc. etc. over the last 5 years or so. Hardly ANYTHING has come out of Russia in quite awhile.

Not just ammo either, but all surplus gear, mags, accessories and guns...

The Russians have been holding on to all the old shit and stockpiling it for a few decades now.
