Howdy, sports fans. ;)

My my, what a lovely pairing this turned out to be. Close to perfect!

These Imperials have been in my humidor for a year now, and that has had a wondrous effect on them. Straight from the box when I first got them they were good, now with a little time on them, they're great! Medium/light on strength. Smooth, creamy caramel flavors. Just a hint of cedar and a hint of cinnamon and pepper on the tail end. You can pass a nice quantity of smoke through your olfactory region with these. :naughty: These are grossly under rated by many.

As I said I paired the Imperial with some Eagle Rare bourbon. This is the ten year version. Bottled at 90 proof by our friends at Buffalo Trace. My local cost - $33 per 5th.

In many ways this reminds me of Elijah Craig. It has that same oily, substantial mouth feel. The aroma isn't quite as pleasant as the EC, but its nice nonetheless.

Its got a nice sweetness to it, caramel, vanilla and maybe some brown sugar. There seems to be a nice quantity of rye in the mash bill, tho I know not how much. This is spicier than EC, but thicker and sweeter than Buffalo Trace. There are hints of cinnamon and perhaps even ginger, the barrel has been kind to this juice. I would personally rate this as, I dunno, a 95? This is exactly the kind of whiskey I enjoy the most. Neither the Irish nor the Scots can produce whiskey like this, perhaps one day they'll discover corn. ;)

In closing, this pairing is a great example of what manly relaxation is all about. All pleasure, no pain.

I am 100 percent with you on the Eagle Rare. But I don't smoke. Gave up my pipes and my pouch of "Flying Dutchman" about 30 years ago.
