So that exposed opening around the underfolder is normal? My underfolder knowledge is based on owning only 1 Yugo, and there is no exposed opening like in the picture. I just assumed the opening would/should not be visible.

It does seem strange but it is not unusual for a Chinese underfolder to look like that.

It would look like that if the folder locking lugs weren't "locked" in the open or closed position.

Should have said "fully locked"

It does appear that the stock is not fully extended, makes sense. Thanks!
