The freaking pirates! $11 to $13 for a 50 round box! Might as well shoot .223! That is a max of 26 cents a freaking round!

Thats what 7.62x39 is going for.

Jeeze, so that is where it is all going.

I am surprised that there is still a .22 shortage.

What is sad is that there are people who will say they just have to have that ammo and will pay the crazy prices, thereby ruining it for everyone.

I once asked someone who said he just had to have .22LR that if he didn't get any for a while would he fall over dead immediately? He didn't answer.

WallyWorld has Tula 7.62x39 for about half that price, $5.47.

$5.47 divided by 20 rounds equals a little over 27 cents per round.

I was reffering to Scheutz's statement that .22 was 26 cents per round at the link in the OP.

Yes they have it. But these prices will stay high because all the people that will pay those prices! Screws the rest of us that won't. So I don't see prices going down anytime soon.

And that is a reasonable price for CCI quality, 5.8 cents / round.

I wish I had not gotten into shooting when I did because I remember buying a case of CCI Blazer for $29 plus tax. There are some memories I wish I could forget.

In mid 2011 I purchased a 1000 round brick of Blazer hi velocity .22lr for $18 plus tax. There were three bricks on the shelf, but I only bought one because I had never used any Blazer 22. Been kicking myself ever since for not buying all three. Have not seen as much a box of 50 since.

Yeah it's hard to find and when you do it's an outrageous price on it

Just went to WallyWorld this morning and picked up 3 100 rnd. boxes of CCI LR for $7.47. They had about 60 boxes there. This is the first time I've seen ANY .22 LR at that particular store since before summer started. I guess I just lucked out this morning.

Local WW advertised the same. I was camping with the scouts or I would have gone. They also had a 20% offsale on the zq (?) ammo. When I called they only had the .308 left. 6.97 a box of 20

Local mart had 40 or so boxes of .22 cci. Hundred rounds for 7.47. I bought three boxes. This was at 3 in the afternoon!

I hope this is a sign that the .22 RF shortage is over and supplies will start getting back to "normal."

My buddy, who shops WW every morning for .22's, just stopped by and sold me 1,000 rnds. of Remington Goldens for $80. I paid $2.00/222 rnd. boxes, over what he paid for them. Not too bad since he was in the area and delivered them to my door. He said, lately, .22's have been getting harder to find at his WW.

I haven't seen ANY at 3 other WW since I last posted here 3 months ago. It seems like it's getting scarce again.

So it's not just my imagination and there are guys who actually do this. Glad that he gave you a break since most of us fall victim (of sorts) to this behavior.

Being old school I am really having a hard time seeing a brick (500 rounds) of .22LR go for $40 and up. CDNN has it advertised at the bargain price of $50 a brick.

Oh yeah. It's a ritual with him and 3 other guys that live in the area. One of them is a town cop who buys a few boxes then takes them to a friend's sporting goods store and sells them to him at cost. That way, he's doing his friend a favor and he has a few boxes to sell, too.

It's similar to a bunch of guys around here who always start their mornings at Mickey D's or Hardee's with coffee and breakfast. The only difference is these guys buy .22's instead of breakfast.

During the summer, when I taught summer school, I would join them. But, now that summer school's over, my buddy's looking out for me.

a couple weeks ago I scored 3k of .22lr at walmart. It was about $50/1000. on top of what I already have I probrably have about 6 or 7k of .22lr so I am set for a while. I haven't shot any since early 2013.

Actually, it was 1360 rnds. for $80. I miscounted when I posted this. When you said $50/500, I didn't think that sounded right, so I went back and rechecked. My fault. Math isn't one of my strong points. ;)

I think the days of cheap .22 ammo are over guys! Just buy when you can.

$25/500 is high, but not astronomical. In the early 2000s I remember .22lr being around $7-$9/500. Fair price these days would probably be around $15-$18/500 if it werent for the shortage.

Don't forget we used to laugh at the .50 BMG guys for paying $1 a round in those days. Now a box of .308 hunting ammo is $1/ round or more. Hell, have you looked at .44mag lately?

Oh yeah. I was checking those out this afternoon. WW has it at $.80/cartridge.

Local Wally world has the same guys every morning. So I hear. Normally I am at work at that time. Not hurting here. But might go this morning.
