I have a few M1 rifles, but I'm more of a M1 carbine guy myself.

This is my 1943 Springfield from the DCM that is pretty close to being in mint condition.

Dang it!!! I gotta go buy a new keyboard now because I just shorted mine out from drooling all over it! Man I would LOVE to have an M1 collection like that!! My poor 1954 H&R sits all alone with no other M1's to talk to. I need to get him some company.

Well it's an old photo but here is my 1st M1 a CMP Winchester mixmaster.

Here it is again with the H&R M1 in my collection. Also included is a Remington Model 11 with flaming bomb ordnance marks. The forearm was replaced with a civilian model in the 1970's. Lastly an 03A3 Smith Coronna.

Nice looking M1 rifle, but what is it?

It's a Springfield Armory, and it was made in 1945.

I had one but it kept ejecting the clip with seven rounds in it into the air and onto my head. I replaced everything on it except the trigger group, barrel, gas tube and sights.

I replaced the stock, op rod, op rod spring, clip latch, CL spring, CL pin, bullet guide and all related parts. It worked for a short time and then started it again. I spent more on parts than I did on the rifle . :dizzy:

On the plus side it looked a lot better with that new stock.

I gave it to a democrat.

After all, why should I have more than one gun and some socialist not have any? :ohsnap:

I missed this earlier. Here is my one M1 Garand.

http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww19/ltorlo64/100_1110.jpg

It is an H&R made in the mid 50's. I got it from CMP. I waited about 4 months for it. I am glad I did.

He said I can have it back anytime I wanted it. I don't see what else I could have done to get it running right.

My hope was that in SHTF he would be a convenient bullet magnet. The numb nut got himself an AK.

I don't want it back, I get enraged looking at the damned thing. Glad I haven't seen it in six years. I'm sure they really kick ass, for everyone else. I like looking at all the other M1s in the world, but when I see that one, it's like Niagara Falls for the Three Stooges.

Schuetzenman gave me a few clues and I passed them on to my gunsmith and now it works like a champ.

Did any involve the gas tube or plug? Because they are the only things not replaced.

The new op rod did not have an accelerator in it so I had to put the old one in the new rod. That probably has nothing to do with anything.

It's a few hundred miles from me, but I actually can get it back anytime. I would like to solve the problem even if I don't want it anymore.

Same thing with my 1911, it had a hard to track down problem but after many internet consultations on another forum it was diagnosed and corrected. Then sold with no bitter feeling but with relief that I never had to use it in a self defense situation and I wasn't selling an unreliable weapon to a politically decent person.

If I remember it was replacing the clip latch spring and adjusting the clip latch. There was something else too but I don't remember what it was. Nothing to do with tube or rod.
