So why stop at the stock? How about a new heavy barrel?

I can't say I like it but it is your do with as you please and it does not look like a permanent bubbajob.

Need a range report!

Took it for a test shoot today,The scope was giving me issues with it sliding forward on the rail a little bit each shot and finally got the clamp adjusted tight. The rivets held good on the action.Never got it to the 100 yard mark but was about 1.5 inch at 50 with surplus polish steel light ball.I need to get the trigger done to take up the travel. The butt elevation knob worked nice to hold on target. This was a test project to see if I could fold up the 14 gauge sheet metal stock because I do have a 1 3/8 thick super heavy barrel for the mosin from TGI and there is no way it's going in the factory stock with with out making it paper thin. The mosin drops in to the stock UN-MOLESTED....kman

Interesting concept, I think it needs some refining such as profiling the check so there's not a corner in your cheek and the like but over all one of the better idea's I've seen. Package it with a drop handled bolt handle and I bet it would sell.

I'm starting to really like it. It is an original concept that doesn't require permanent modification to the rifle. Neat.

It always pays to keep an open mind. If he'd swap barrels and get a less than one moa shooter; I'd still like it. Sub moa rifles and foxy ladies always win an admiring look from me.

As Clint said "a man gotta know his limitations;" so I know and accept my weakness.. :D

OK Gent's....3rd installment in the Polished turd experiment...Got some more range time with this over the weekend.I redid the recoil pad to fit the shoulder better and feels much better.

I shot 3 shot volley's at 100 yards with polish steel lightball...number 1 is the starting 3 shots and so on..volley number 2 has a nickle size group?..is it a fluke? maybe? But I do think that the horrible Mosin trigger with is 3 mile take up is it's worse enemy,It's hard to get the feel of where the trigger breaks. So the next step is a huber style trigger and some domestic brass ammo follow up.this is the bull barrel thats going in the next stock...these 99 dollar guns are addicting..kman

I think its coming along. I like the idea of low budget projects, it doesnt hurt as much when it goes wrong or doesnt work out. So far you havent made any changes that cant be put right back as was, except the barrel but Im sure all will agree that is an improvement so not bubbaed at all.

Hope to see more updates.

I say do what you want on whatever you want. If you devalue a firearm buy doing so, it's your $$ and your loss.
I say it's not Bubbaizing, it's improving the ergonomics of the rifle. I think it's a great project, and wish I had the tools and know how to do it.

I say shoot and enjoy your creation. :thumbspbig:

What kind of paint is on the scope and receiver? It looks like some kind of paint you might see on some outdoor furniture. Looks very resistant to rust/corrosion.

Nice job on the build... it reminds me of some kind of sniper rifle that may have been used in Bosnia, like the move "shot through the heart".

Thanks Gent's,The paint I used on the stock is Rust-Oleum's "Hammered Metal" spray paint that has a fish eye agent in it that separates the paint after you spray in to the industrial looking texture. The scope has the factory Russian hammered paint they come with and that's the look I was trying to mimic,Like the rifle was made in some dark cold-war factory back in the 50's.

US made ammo may not prove all that you'd hope it to be. All of it that I am aware of has a .308 bullet in it and the accuracy is going to be sad given the true .310" to .311" size of real 7.62x54R ammo.

The steel cased Russian from the 1980's should be very good as should Yugoslav brass cased ammo from the 1980's to 1990's. Hungarian lt. ball is also one of the top accuracy surplus rounds. Never did Polish, sold all my Mosin's off before it was imported.

It's an interesting project, you look to be doing some very nice work. I would also second the notion that you need to do some rounding off of the comb line on the stock. Your cheek will appreciate it. Besides a square stock bears too much resemblance to a 2x4. ;)

I dunno. I've seen a youtube video with a guy shooting a M/N using 200 grain 308 cal Sierra Match Kings, and he does a respectable job, overall.

I say you can try the 308" bullets, you might be pleasantly surprised!

I like it, You get the trigger solved and go to .312 or .311 bullets and I betcha you have a nickle group shooter consistently. Keep working, I want to see how this shakes out.
