In March 2000, I was 23 years young, with already two years experience as a municipal police officer. I had just been accepted for an assignment on a regional tactical (SWAT) team, to work with the best officers from almost twenty police departments. It was a fairly proud moment for a youthful, aggressive beat cop to be selected to such an elite unit so early in his career. However, that letter of acceptance put me on the dark trail of police militarization.

I have never met him, but I "know" him and many just like him. I like his article and his transformative journey. Hinsdale (where he works) is in a different county and is a fairly wealthy community. I'd imagine the take no shit/give no slack young cowboy cop approach went over like a turd in a punchbowl there.
