I have been a member of both organizations for several years. I've always liked the JPFO for their no compromise approach to "gun control" i hope that doesn't change with this merger.
Massad Ayoob's take on the issue:

I'm not jewish, but i did stay at a holiday inn once :), my daughter-in-law is jewish and my son has converted, so i have been given the title of "honorary jew"

I once had dinner with Alan Gottlieb AND later Aaron Zelman before he passed. :D I have autographed copies of their books in the home library. :D The JPFO always hit the antigunners HARD with slogans and PR campaigns that 'shamed anti gun Jews and Liberals". I loved it! They could do things that no WASP could ever get away with. :D

I would like to have met Mr. Zelman, the organization he started is uniquely positioned in the gun rights debate, he knew this and was as baffled as i am that a majority of Jews aren't vehemently opposed to victim disarmament
The JPFO coming under the umbrella of the SAF could be a very good thing for both organizations, but we'll have to wait and see i guess. I get a a daily newsletter from the JPFO and some of the members aren't very happy with this change
The SAF convention was held at a hotel 2 miles from my house in 2011, i think just after the heller decision was handed down, got to meet all the big dogs in the gun rights crowd... i thought Alan Gura would be taller :)

Agreed both are excellent orgs to donate to. I have to adimt I've been lax on the JPFO, but I do donate to the SAF often which brings major suits to conclusion.

Sounds like the JPFO was in financial trouble?
