A new law that takes effect next month will let prosecutors pack heat in Oklahoma.

Judges and district attorneys have previously been granted the right to carry guns in the state, including in courtrooms. House Bill 2552, effective Nov. 1, extends the right to assistant district attorneys who receive state-certified training and permission from the district attorney.

Trent Baggett, acting executive coordinator of the District Attorneys Council and acting executive director of the District Attorneys Association, said threats to some assistant district attorneys prompted members to seek the new law.
