I hired a guy to help with the tear-off(Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and some on Thursday, 4 hours+ each day) So that took 18 hours.
The roofer I hired shows up on Thursday morning and gets busy with fixing all the bad wafer board.
Friday morning he is finished with the fix's and starts to paper and shingle.
These pics were taken at the end of the day on Saturday.
Today, he finished up, I had to run to town, 30 miles away, and get 4 bundles of shingles and 2 bundles of ridge cap.

I have to return a bunch of stuff before I will know my total cost for the roof, but I think it will be below $4,000.

Not bad for a guy who like guns!

Seriously, getting that done for around 4K is a great savings. Not to mention it looks nice!

27 squares, to be exact! I got them for $64/square. I am left handed, why?

64/sqaure is a good price, that's about what they are here depending on the manufacturor. I can tell by the way the shingles are run going into the valley that someone is a lefty. Years ago when i shingled every day my partner was a lefty, we could never work on the same area of a roof together and the boss could always tell which areas we had done by the direction of the step off on the shingles
Not much of a big deal when you're laying laminated shingles, but if you're using 3 tab shingles with a 5" step off like we do here some builders didn't like to see the change in the pattern on the same side of the building.

She thinks she's the boss!!!

I did part of the tear off, hired another guy to do the demo with me. I paid $50 extra for delivery to load everything on the roof.

The guy doing the install finished at 5:30pm yesterday, and it started raining at 7pm, rained all night! Made that one by a hair!

Yes, "Over My Head", the roof is over my head, as in a joke!

So, am I the 'average guy' or the 'idiot'?

Well, I'm glad it looks great, no matter how they got there!

Must've been some idiot!

Actually considering how much you saved by doing it yourself, you are definitely NOT the idiot!

In phoenix the going rate for a single layer tear-off and install with 25 yr 3-tab shingles is $150.00/square from a small pick-up truck contractor using non english speaking piece work labor, so 27 sq.x 150= $4050.00 without tax. He done real good if he's under that. He got a much better job and an upgraded shingle.
One my neighbors hired one of these small time guys to re do his roof last spring, one of the roofers( i use the term loosely) took a shit in his garbage can, shingled over a bad piece of OSB sheeting so now he has a 2'x4' dip in his roof right in the front of the house and most of the ridge shinlges blew off in a 35 mph wind. I'd help him out but he kind of reminds me of LAGC politically, uses projection as a defence mechanism and thinks people who don't agree with his leftist opinions are morons. He still has his obama/biden sticker on the bumper of his car and he called the cops on me for shooting pidgeons in my back yard with a pellet gun, and he thinks my dog killed one of his cats.

Thanks Rage!

Well, my dumb ass must have missed something, I came up with 2380sf, ordered 26sq and ended up short 2-1/3 bundles. And a 1/2 bundle of cap short. They supplied 2 extra rolls of felt, 1 extra roll of ice dam and one extra bundle of starter tab.

Total material costs= $2,950 or a little less, got a few things to return.
Labor for tear-off, = $220 (with me also working on it)
Labor for fixing bad waferboard= $100
Labor for install= $720

Total= $3,990, or three happy meals shy of $4k!

BTW, the house is 1,880sf.

Man, pricewise, that's cheap!

They'd want at least $10K to do it aroung here.

And it looks beautiful to boot!
