550 Dillon or 650 Dillon?

Auto indexing or manual?

Which is preferred by most of you here?

Why is one better than the other?

Maintenance, which one has the fewer issues?

I went with the 550. The main reason was the cost of tool heads and caliber change kits. For the cost savings, I can index the thing with a flick of my finger.

Okay the cost is a factor.

Someone else have input on the ease of use?I'm trying to get a comparison of the two models.Pros and cons of either.

I'm with AK, add up all the costs of toolheads, toolhead stands, powder funnels, dies, caliber conversions for all your intended calibers plus press accessories and machine maintenance kit for each machine to see how much extra the 650 is going to cost you. For my own taste, high production volume is not desirable and manual inspection and control are very important to me so I can prevent mishaps. Just to be clear, I only have a 550 and no experience with a 650.

I also went with the 550 for the same reasons. Mine has served me well over many thousands of rifle and handgun rounds and I don't think the benefits of the 650 would have paid off to negate the cost difference in my use.

For those of you that use the 550,how do you clean the cases after loading?

I have considered using the single stage to full length resize, clean the case of the lube then use the Dillon to do just a neck size.

I tumble the cases, then load them. For rifle cases that need case lube, I wipe them off with a rag when I put them into the box. Actually one of my kids usually does the wiping and putting away, but it doesn't look all that hard.

I wipe the loaded rounds as I put them on the scale to weigh them and then put them in plastic ammo box.

Sold my 1050 about a year ago including the accessories. I am familiar with the 650, and that is on my "to buy" list. The case feeder is a wonderful accessory.

Dillon makes a case feeder for the 550 now too.

550 because of cost or I'd have a 1050 I wipe them off with a rag and a Lil lighter fluid unless it's 55gr fmj they don't get messed up loading like rounds with a grease ring.
