Who makes them (new), and how much do they run? I'm leaning towards a lever action, but that's not firm.

I'm noy sure if they still make these, but is one awesome rifle. Comes apart at the breach, tube mag in buttstock.

I had a Belgian model, made a stupid trade (as I see it now) for an AK, mine was serial #77711.

Browning still offers the SA-22.

There is also the AR-7 amd the Marlin Model 70PSS Papoose. I can't think of anyone currently making a takedown .22 lever-action off the top of my head.

The little Brownings are good accurate rifles (I have a Belgium) and occasionally you stumble onto the Chinese copy of it. I think the Chinese copy of it would make a good, accurate, inexpensive beater.

I had an AR-7. It was pretty good for what it was designed for, but not exactly what I was looking for. That Browning caught my attention. They're running around $600 or so in my area new.

How about a lever action .22LR take down? Anyone know if anyone is making them?

Hey 63,

Here are the Brownings, both Belgium and Japanese, on GB.

63DH8, I've looked at Browning (Model BL-22), Henry (various models), Marlin (Model 39A) and Mossberg (Model 464) and I don't see any of them offering these in a takedown version. I can't think of anyone else currently offering a .22 rimfire lever-action rifle.

Marlin 39A is the one. IMHO

I've always thought the 39A was a take-down ... correct me if I'm wrong

IIRC CDNN Investments is/was offering a take down Winchester 1895, think it was in 30.06 or perhaps 30-40 Krag.

Whoops. Didn't realize this was in the rimfire forum. Never mind.

I guess that would be true. I typically think of a takedown rifle looking like this:

The break is made at the forward enf of the receiver, leaving it intact. Literally unscrewing the barrel from the receiver.
