ATLANTA (Reuters) - A suburban Atlanta police chief on Thursday shot his wife and critically wounded her in what he described as an accidental discharge of his service weapon at the couple's home, officials said.

I wonder if this police Chief is anti gun or not? Either way, I'm not glad that this tragedy occurred (hope she pulls through). But it speaks to the 'MYTH' perpetrated by the anti gun loons that 'only the cops' have the discipline, training and judgment to own or use firearms.

I wonder if more will come out on this. My question has to do with someone cleaning their gun before dawn while in their bedroom. Just doesn't look right.

As to the myth, I think anti-gunners will still use this. They will say, "see, if cops can't be trusted to use a firearm safely and they are trained, how can we allow those who are not trained to use firearms.

I didn't see anything about him cleaning it in the article?

I jus reread the article and it does not say anything about cleaning the weapon. I could have sworn that I read that but I can't say where, maybe I just assumed that as I read the article. I hope I didn't do that but it seems the best explanation. Now it is just an accidental discharge at 4 am (http://www.11alive.com/story/news/local/peachtree-city/2015/01/01/peachtree-city-police-chief-wife-shot/21148715/).

Exactly why people suck as eyewitnesses. They see and remember things that weren't there.

With modern firearms (not Lorcins or Ravens) there are no accidental discharges...and even with aforementioned crap arms...accidental is a misnomer.

There are only negligent discharges.

You are as liable for the disposition of your arms as you are of your car, chainsaw, nailgun, etc...

1. Every gun is loaded...period.
2. Muzzle control...period.
3. Booger hook off the bang switch until necessary...period.

Can't follow those rules...you don't deserve to have a potentially dangerous tool in your hands...go to the back of the line....have fun when you guide your thumb under the bandsaw...

Which is why you need more than one. One does not give a good account, 3-4 you can put together very close what happened.

You also need to realize that written stories change frequently on the net (re news stories)...particularly if there is some element that doesn't meet the party line agenda. It's very possible the version you first read contained that info, and it has been altered since then.
